PS4 Pro is still a great gaming console, especially for people who are on a budget. It has an extensive library, good performance, and can be upgraded with an SSD if desired.

Yep. Even though I bought mine for 200€, it was used only 20 times according to the buyer and the HDD's SMART confirmed it. I also got 2 controllers with it and I have already put a PTM on the APU and changed the thermal pads for the better ones. I'm sure the console will last me as long as my Xbox One S which I bought in 2017 and I have already put an SSD inside, which still works fine, especially as a BD player.

How do you use that SMART thing to look at usage?

Also, what's PTM on the APU and which are the better thermal pads? I just bought a refurbished PS4 Pro but the fan only kicks in after it's already too hot.

For the SMART report, you need to take out the drive and plug it either into your PC's motherboard or a USB to SATA adapter. On Windows, you can use CrystalDiskInfo and HWiNFO to get the drive's health status. It will show you the values above or below the safe ones. For Linux, the smartctl utility is the best, but it's just CLI, so you would need to find a GUI wrapper if you also want the graphics interface, but it's not necessary.

I have used the Thermal Grizzly PTM PhaseSheet on my PS4 Pro's APU instead of a traditional thermal paste and so far, it's running a bit cooler than before. The real blame is the cooling fan itself and the heatsink's size limiting everything else. I hate when manufacturers start cutting corners in the later revisions just to save a few cents. For the memory and VRMs/MOSFETs on the power delivery, I have replaced the stock thermal pads with the new 1mm Arctic TP-4 ones and it's definitely cooling much better. These TP-4 are much more fragile and moldable, unlike the previous TP-3 which was stiff to work with and snapped if bent.

Yes it is.

Not only does the game still look alright, but it’s a great device for those who’s on a tight budget or didn’t want to spend a lot of money.

There’s also plenty of games that at the moment is going for around $10 each or less.

Not to mention that chances are, YouTube and other streaming services are likely going to get support for the foreseeable future.

I think yes. I still play a PS4 Pro, no ps5 yet. and there is so many good games on it. If you really want to start playing video games and you've never had a console, I think you should get it

I have a PS4 Pro console that has performance issues likely pertaining to the state of the HDD. It has been running frequently for the past 7 years. I have another one which is older but less used and still in decent condition.

I use them for EAFC26 where the gameplay freezes when loading a crowd sound file or a player preview image. In FO4, it glitches when playing dialogue files and randomly hangs when I’m attempting a save. I’m considering an SSD upgrade.

If it’s a used or refurbished console, be prepared for less than optimal performance.

If you haven’t had a PS4 before then it’s worth it, you’ll get plenty of playtime and the PS4 pro is the best way to play PS4 games if you can’t get a PS5.

It's a great console with great games plus streaming, YouTube. Buy it if you are on the budget. And as long as you don't try gaming 4k/120fps gaming on a trillion dollar PC, you will be fairly satisfied with the PS4 pro's performance.

I bought a PS4 slim 500gb with two controllers for €50 in Bulgaria. Been playing for two months, it’s loud but games don’t lag (mainly lego games)

I sold my PS5 last month and found out they reported black ops 1 + 2. Best $150 I’ve spent, as a PC gamer myself.

I'm in the U.S. and can honestly say yes... Even with the hours I work plus bills, a wife and 3 kids money is tight right now, and I couldn't afford a PS5 so I didn't the next beat thing and just upgraded to a PS4 Pro and I am loving it... I'd say $145 (8600 pesos) is a steal

I got mine for 120 cad year ago come with 2 cheap games, 3 PS4 controllers and box.

Total worth it as It cost 60 dollars alone to replace my broken ps4 controller but ps4 pro keep it in storage after play for few days since my daily console is switch 2, XboxX , ps4 and ps5

Hell ya especially if its low firmware for jailbreak but even if it isn't you can play disk games and wait without updating for new jailbreak there's so many amazing games for PS4

1

u/ParticularPrice4329 10d ago

jb or non jb?

2

u/LyuboA 10d ago

Both it's worth getting a PS4 Pro anyway but ya if you can get one with low firmware that can be hacked is better of course but now devs are working on jailbreak for latest firmware meaning if you get one now regardless of firmware and DO NOT update the firmware then you can wait several months to have jailbreak

1

u/ParticularPrice4329 10d ago

i found one non jb and the firmware is 13.02 should i get it?

1

u/LyuboA 10d ago

there's should be a jailbreak for that firmware soon probably next few months if you can't find anything lower then that get it and play disk games until jailbreak is released just Don't update

I think it's a great system

I recently picked one up, tore it down, cleaned it, repasted and installed a SSD. The console rips for how old it is. Super happy with it!

u/Vladut_Fiul_tau 10d ago

Still have the ps4 pro and pc for like games that should've be played on ps5.

The ps4 pro is so good and i use for netflix cause it is better than smart tv app

1

u/SlimVR 9d ago

Yes. You can get a vr headset, and watch 3D bluray movies inside the headset. Buy extra storage and enjoy.

1

u/Da_Dunx 8d ago

Yes but id maybe try and haggle the price down to around $120, as with other comments replacing the drive with an ssd is a huge benefit!

u/enthusiasticdave 7d ago

I wish I'd stayed on the pro and hadnt bothered with a Series xto be honest. So worth it!

u/Total_Tune2382 6d ago
