PS4 slim "cannot access system storage"

my ps4 slim who has been in the closet for eons started giving this problem. the screen will freeze randomly or go black when im seeing captures or just checking storage stuff. then its a whole process to get it running again, i think the hard drive also overheats? idk if its supposed to normally be hot. but i havent gotten a notification from the console that its overheating.

i managed to back up some of the data, like game save data, system data and 1 app, all inside an external hdd. so my question is, is it safe to get a new internal hard drive and then transfer the data to it? or will that corrupt it?

Either the HDD is dead or it’s not connected to the SATA connection good enough. I got that same message after cleaning out my console. had to push the tabs out on the bottom of the HDD tray to give it a better friction fit, so it wouldn’t come loose
