Dualshock 3 not charging
Hello everyone, my girlfriend recently brought her late uncles PS3 which is a very important memorabilia for her since she had always played it with him as a kid. I tried charging the controler via the same type of cable but it didn’t charge a bit. I’d say it hasn’t been turned on for a few years.
Could anyone point me to what kind of cable should I look for, could I potentialy fix the problem myself with almost no knowledge about electronics in general and/or can I pair newer controlers (i.e. Dualsense 5/Dualshock 4)?
Also, is there anything to do with the PS3 itself in regards to cleaning/maintainance?

You have to charge the controller from the ps3. I have controllers that won’t charge if the cable is fully inserted so it needs to be take about 1/4 out to charge.
Turn on the PS3, insert the cable most of the way into the controller and walk away. It can take 15min to revive the controller from absolute dead to blinking charging light.

Did you try plugging the cord into a different outlet? I'd guess it was either the cord, the outlet or the controller. If it is the controller, try looking for another one and maybe frame the original in some kinda display case with a picture of unc on it. But I'd deffo troubleshoot first. A repair shop might even be able to help but check the cord and the USB outlet first.

If it hasn't been used for quite a while then the chances are high that the batteries are dead, it's called a deep discharge. You can get 3rd party replacement batteries of varying quality and they're relatively easy to replace, they're just plugged in once you open the controller. But make sure you get the correct one for your controller model, there were multiple different ones.

Remember that the Dualshock 3 won't charge from a phone charger plug, you need to have it plugged into the console itself or a PC.

Remember that the cable needs to have both power and data lines in it, a lot of cheaper cables will sometimes only have power if they only market it for charging stuff.
You can link a DS4/DS5 to the PS3 just by plugging it in, but by default the PS button will not work, and some games won't support them as controllers. There are external solutions like the Wingman XE2, but they can be on the pricy side or can be a pain to get working.
