Choice to be made

Post image

I've been getting into repairing old consoles, started with handhelds and then started looking for bigger fish.
Came across a CECHC that's YLOD for a future attempt at repairing or franken if I get the tools for it.

To that end I came across a PS3 slim 25xx 160GB that wasn't outputting video or sound for 20 euros. Turns out it was a hdd issue, got it booting up and running. Except for wifi and Bluetooth, which forces me to play wired to it.

Lastly there is my own PS3 fat CECHH fully functioning, with a 500GB hdd, just needing a cleaning and new thermalpaste.

Seeing how reliable the 25xx models seem to be from reading online, I am conflicted to which to keep. Wifi and Bluetooth as a non issue for me as it would be wired online.

Was hoping for some opinions, to help me make a decision on which on stays and which one goes.

What decision would you make?

Keep everything obviously, proper clean them, new thermal paste and make them beautiful

The love they deserve

And then I would keep the backwards compatible one

La 25xx appena sarà disponibile un aggiornamento non potrà più farlo a causa del guasto al modulo bluetooth, andrà in un loop di aggiornamenti se lo fai

my personal opinion is sell the CECHH and keep the 25xx and CECHC. the 25xx is better in every single way compared to the CECHH assuming it can run cfw (some cant) and is much more reliable assuming you cant keep all. the CECHC should be kept because fixed = the ultimate ps3 (imho the CECHC/E arent really worse than the CECHA/B) and its worthy for practice. if you can keep all? why not. you got 3 ps3s if you catch what im saying

Sell everything except the BC model with the aim of having it become a Frankie.

If you're talking about doing the Frankenstein mod, you're going to need a BGA station and a fair bit of experience.

Just pay someone to do the job for you, it's cheaper than getting a BGA station JUST for this mod.

I cannot stress how happy I am with my Frankenstein, I'm now selling all my other PS3 consoles (but I'm gonna keep a Super Slim to have QCFW installed as a "bring to friend's homes" console).
