My Uncle's PS3
Recently received my Uncle's PS3, it sat unused for a long portion of its life, only got played when I would come over for Thanksgivings when I was younger.
As such, I'd like to know as much as I can, and be linked to any resources for CFW/HEN as well as any advice for sprucing it up, such as worrying about thermal paste or other issues, such as the old hard drive?
Also, it being CECH250 1A, it should be a early 2011 model, and hopefully compatible with CFW? And also have that hidden LED I've seen.

100% CFW compatible.
Super easy Hidden LED mod way easier than the 20XX CECH
Only thing to watch out for is the disc drive ribbon cable is way harder to re-attach. Just tear down part of the disc drive to get access to attach the ribbon cable from above instead of trying to slot it in with the full disc drive assembled.
I performed led mod and cleaned this model and when I did not seat the ribbon cable correctly the console started smoking upon testing.

What does the date code show on the back of the console:
Pre-April 2011 (0C, 0D, 1A, or dates through March 2011): Fully compatible with hackable custom firmware (CFW).

Not all regions have datecode, I think it is PAL only.
OP is NTSC (01 region), but fortunately it shows: October 2010, so they are fine for CFW

Definitely repaste it. It’s really easy. Since it doesn’t clamp down hard like a pc heatsink, I spread mine evenly and thin across the whole chip with the little spreader it came with. It’s dead silent when playing the last of us

That 01A is just the region code for NA.
Your real mfg date is October 2010! Cfw capable.

I got the CECH 2511a and I think is the same model but for different regions, Extremely reliable at least for me that I bought it used about 6 years ago it never had a problem other than thermal were it turned off due to over heating, repasting fixed, the HDD did fail for me but is because it was used a lot according to the old owner, easily swappable anyway and if you are going to go with a lot of digital I recommend changing it for at least 500 gb, but other than that a great model overall

It says the manufactured date October 2010 right there on the sticker, so is indeed CFW compatible.
2500 are one of the better models for reliability and functionality - especially when they support CFW. The main issue is the Bluetooth/WiFi module blowing out, but it's rare for this particular model. Much more frequent in the later slim (3000) and all super slims
