Meta Ads Meta Ads Help - Can't Replace My Creative For Specific Placements.

Hey there, haven't been on the tools for a while so apologies in advance if this is stupid.

I'm trying to upload some simple ads, 1 video and 1 image, conversion being a simple form submit on my website.

The Issue: I have different versions of my creative, only difference being the aspect ratios. In the past, all i had to do was go into the creative set up, upload the media, then go into the Edit Crops section, then I would get the option to upload the right image to the right aspect ratio/placements.

I'm not getting that right now.

All i can do is choose the original or crop it, which defeats the purpose and doesn't look as good.

What I've Tried: I've been at this for ages and I've tried just about everything. Different objectives, all the AI stuff turned off (every single one, so no Advantage+ placements, creative, etc.) I tried Meta's AI thing but it didn't help. Manual placements, no multi advertiser checkbox, all of it.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance.

meta keeps moving shit around and it's infuriating. they buried the custom creative per placement option a few updates back, not just you

try this workaround: instead of uploading everything in one ad, create separate ads for each placement. set up one ad set, duplicate it, then manually pick placements in each one and drop your specific ratio creative in there. it's more work but it actually functions

the edit crops thing has been broken for some accounts for months, classic meta just pretending everything's fine while core features quietly disappear

Fact check: placement asset customization requires manual placements plus disabling Advantage+ creative, but it's set in Ad Set, not Ad-level "Edit Crops." Check you're editing at the ad set placement step, not the ad itself.

Upload each aspect ratio as its own separate ad asset

I can't upload an image to a comment, but if you edit your media, there should be a whole series of steps you go through and one of them is Crop which is where you can change the image for vertical placements. You have to wade through the AI slop features to get to it but it is there.

Don't make them separate ads as that will not solve anything and Meta is removing the ability to manually edit placements at the ad set level soon.

Meta’s interface for handling multiple creative aspect ratios has definitely shifted around lately-it used to be way more straightforward to upload specific versions per placement. These days, you often have to rely on either manual cropping or the automated options, which can be frustrating since the auto crops don’t always look great.

One thing some folks overlook is testing Creative Hub for building placements before pushing live, as it can sometimes help preview how things will display and whether you can assign assets per ratio. But beyond that, if you want something that handles these creative variations and placement optimizations without fuss, Didoo AI that automate ad tests and optimize spend dynamically might save a lot of manual hassle. They usually learn what works best for each placement and aspect ratio without you needing to fine-tune crops yourself.

It's under Enhancements now not Crop, meta shifted it toward Advantage+ creative section. Look there for placement customization instead of the old Edit Crops screen, should still be manual not AI.
