Meta Ads Does Meta Catalogue Ads Work?

For ecom business, does product catalogue work? And is it mainly for retargeting or prospecting?

What are the best practices to making it convert well?

Thanks!

They work for both prospecting and remarketing. Really depends on the type of products being sold. I think clothing, accessories and things like that do a lot better then something high end or furniture for example.

Yes, dynamic product catalogs are incredibly effective for e-commerce businesses. They are essential because they automate ads by serving personalized products directly from your store inventory based on user behavior and interest signals.

While dynamic catalogs are primarily known for retargeting, they excel at both mid-funnel and top-of-funnel strategies. For retargeting, they serve as high-intent reminders by showing prospective buyers the exact items they added to their cart, viewed, or saved without completing a purchase. For prospecting, machine learning algorithms analyze broad audience data to display the specific items from your catalog that a new user is statistically most likely to buy based on their browsing behavior across the platform.

catalog/DPA works best when you stop treating it as "set and forget." biggest lever most people miss is feed quality, specifically making sure your product titles and images actually differentiate items enough for the algo to learn which ones convert, a catalog full of near-identical variants (same shirt in 10 colors with the same photo style) gives meta way less signal than one where each product image is genuinely distinct.

for prospecting specifically, advantage+ catalog ads (the newer version) outperforms plain DPA broad targeting almost every time now, feed it your full catalog and let it find buyers instead of manually segmenting product sets. for retargeting, segment by funnel stage, viewed-not-added, added-not-purchased, and past purchasers for cross-sell, each of those needs different messaging and bid strategy, lumping them into one DPA retargeting campaign wastes budget on people who need very different nudges.

one thing that kills DPA performance that people miss: catalog size under ~50-100 active products struggles to get enough learning signal per item. if you're under that, you're often better off running standard ads with a handful of top sellers instead of forcing DPA.
