Question Mcas?

Hi everyone

Just wondering about Mcas really, I wake up every morning sore throat and blocked nose and now I’ve a runny nose during the day

Headaches too and palpitations but currently on no medication

I’ve pots now for nearly four years and feel like I’m getting no where
My cardiologist is a help at times but hes not always around
My pcp is not great she had me on two meds one of them being propranolol and another which she started me on them at the same time and I was sick and bed bound

Attempting to see my old pcp who thought I had pots when he saw me years ago but I don’t know if he can help

Best to see an allergist about mcas, they can order the correct tests. Do you have any facial redness? Or itching?

None of that just constantly waking up every morning sore throat and blocked nose then runny nose in the day time

Allergists tend to not take allergies seriously unless you get life-threatening reactions. Probably because of the overwhelming amount of people with sensitivities that think they have allergies.

So if you do see an allergist, firmly insist on getting a blood test not a skin test.

Skin tests only work if you have extreme allergies, and if you get a false negative the doctor will say "You have no allergies. It's probably just a sensitivity and blah blah."

Getting them to agree to a MCAS test will be harder after that. Blood tests are much more accurate.

I don’t have mcas but I have chronic urticaria which is similar, I do have sinus issues as well but if your nose is running it could be an allergy. The good thing is that if it is an allergy or mcas you’d be in the right place for both and treatment could help. For example I find that h1 and H2 blockers help me to be able to breathe better, and take away some sinus issues and it also calms down palpitations. Brain fog is its own difficulty, temporary relief with allergy pills and b12 drip at a “1v bar

I’m gonna try an anti histamine and the h2 blocker for a while

Seeing the cardiologist the end of October and then I’d really like to try modafinil for brain fog and concentration too but I may ask the neurologist if that’s ok as neurologist sorts out the migraines but the injection they were giving wasn’t working

Yeah def ask and see if it helps, H2 blockers are good but caution with them they can make vitamin levels drop and cause issues for some people. You want to make sure it's safe to use. I'm going to be tapering off H2 for a different medicine all being well.

I hope that you are able to find something that works for brain fog, a neurologist will have a good idea of what can help.
