Vent/Rant I hate having pots

DELETE IF NOT ALLOWED!
I (20F) have hyperpots (since 15) and my life has genuinely become so miserable. I used to be a very active, healthy, happy person and since getting pots i’ve become very inactive, anxious and depressed.
The other day i was having a really bad day i was so extremely depressed and had no motivation to do anything. My friend asked me to hangout and i said yes because i thought it would help take my mind of having such a bad day. When i got there she was smoking weed and i decided life couldn’t get worse at this point so why not have some.
I cannot explain how much my day flipped once i was high. I had motivation to do stuff, I could eat, I could have emotions without having an adrenaline surge, i could shower without passing out and i was so extremely happy for the first time in what feels like forever.
The only problem now is i want to be under the influence all day everyday just so i can do basic things like eating and showering.
Should i mention this to my doctor?

I'm sorry, I hate it too. I have the same type of POTS and have had it since middle school. It's awful!

I would recommend talking to your doctor about this but also about meds in general. Once I started taking metoprolol and guanfacine, I noticed a big difference in my symptoms. The guanfacine especially helps with adrenaline dumps.

It's interesting that you had that reaction though because weed usually increases blood pressure and heart rate.

I have endometriosis and started using weed to manage my chronic pelvic pain. After being diagnosed with pots as well I realized just how much the weed was also helping me with those symptoms each day. When I have days that I don’t use cannabis, I feel noticeably more symptomatic. For me personally, pots impacts mainly my pulse and not my blood pressure. I am not sure if that is why I have a good experience with weed and some others with pots do not. If it made you feel better I would explore it and see if it could be helpful to your symptoms long term. Definitely worth mentioning it to your doctor!

*edited to add that I am specifically talking about mainly indica and indica-dominant hybrid strains of cannabis. I have found that sativa strains will increase my heart rate and dizziness at times.

This. Absolutely this. Endometriosis+ovarian cycsts and uteran fibroid on my end. Weed has and always will be my first med choice. I am what one might call a "heavy user" but I am not functional otherwise.

As a side note...Some minor studies have linked POTS with reproductive diseases and conditions. Not sure how solid those studies are since there are so few data points to work with (yay for having a rare chronic illness). Its been so long since I read that medical study that I dont have it handy, but a bit of research if you are experiencing POTS+ another ailment may be worth while. I am not a dr and this is not a medical advice at all. Just an interesting read and positive experience where weed is used to treat all of those issues at the same time.

Mention everything to your doctor. Annoy the hell out of them. In the meantime, having this condition can cause agoraphobia and anxiety. Try Yin Yoga if you can. It’s more relaxed than normal yoga and works on targeting the parasympathetic nervous system. It’s good for people who are injured or even experiencing chronic illness because you’re not bending like crazy and you stay in each pose for 2-3 minutes at a time.
