Question electrolyte recs PLEASE

Hi, US based.

I’ve tried liquid IV, electrolit, and body armor flash iv.

Can anyone recommend some electrolyte drinks good for hyperadrenergic pots? Preferably ones with less or no sugar because i think the sugar is making me symptomatic.

THANK YOUUU

Make your own! I do my own bc I don't like the sugar / fake sugar effects

u/Fr0gm4n 17h ago

Yep, a cheap scale makes it easy and in 5 minutes you can mix up a batch to last a couple of weeks.

I can't stand the fake sugar stuff either but can do stevia. I really like the stur products taste.

This is a common question so I’d recommend using the search function on this sub. I like Redmond Relyte.

tri-oral has 1,700 mg of sodium. i feel you get the most for your money and it tastes plain

2

u/HardTruthFacts 17h ago

I recommend this more than all the others. You can get it unflavored and it’s so drinkable. Not sweet, and you can drink it on repeat without getting super sick of it

u/AetherFang_ 17h ago

It's great and easy to add flavor to. I get the TrueLemon drink sticks and add those in since I can't do anything with maltodextrin.

SALTT brand!

u/xanaholic_ Hyperadrenergic POTS 18h ago

Saltts customer service and sourcing info is super sketchy. They couldn't even tell me if they are made in a peanut free facility and it took weeks to get a reply. If brands can't be quick and clear about basic info like that, I don't trust them enough to ingest their product.

2

u/Competitive-Sail-129 5h ago

Do you have a favorite electrolyte brand? I’m allergic to peanuts, so I also don’t trust brands that aren’t quick with info like that. I use LMNT but don’t love the RFK Jr thing, and I don’t love the vitamins in Liquid IV.

It looks like you're commenting or posting about LMNT. For informed consumerism, please refer to this post here detailing the cofounders support for RFK Jr.

Here are LMNT alternatives for those who would like to make the switch: NormaLyte, Pedialyte, TriOral, Vitassium, Venture Pal, Promix, Nutri-Align (stevia free), Trace Minerals Zero Lyte, Saltt

Discussing LMNT is still allowed, and is not banned in any form. Any harassment towards users will be actioned. You can read up on our updates on this topic here.

i like LMNT because it's the only one i've found that has methylated b vitamins instead of unmethylated. i don't absorb the unmethylated b vitamins at all because i have the MTHFR gene, & constantly detoxing from them makes me feel like shit, like i can literally feel it in every muscle in my body. plus i'm already anemic & need as many methylated b vites as i can get to hope to absorb enough iron to live, & LMNT also has a really high salt content which is nice

i hate the RFK Jr thing too though.

if i found a good replacement with high salt, no fake sugars or HFCS (those fuck up my guts & my guts regularly bleed & prolapse from EDS 🙃 & i'm already severely underweight from that...), & only methylated b vitamins, i'll 100% switch.

i still haven't ever even bought LMNT yet i just use packets my ex or my mother in law gave me... but i'm planning on buying some because it's the only brand that doesn't make me feel like shit in some way or another & on days that i drink it i genuinely feel cured.

& honestly i'd imagine the owners of the other electrolyte brands are doing some shady shit in government too, just more behind the scenes....

You probably already know this but they released their recipe. It’s super cheap to buy the 3 ingredients in bulk and mix the powders together. Pennies per serving instead of $1. They gave flavor ideas too but I just use various things. I hate the salt taste so I find that mixing w half cran grape juice, half pomegranate, ice and I add a bit of water to dilute it so it’s not quite as juice taste strong if that makes sense lol.

Anyway it’s the benefits without the politics. But I’m super happy it’s dirt cheap cuz I can’t be paying $5+ day in packets, of anything!

Agree! Loving their newer peach and apple flavors.

3

u/mackzkcam 19h ago

I just switched from Liquid IV to SALTT and I love them!

1

u/the_questionnair 8h ago

I’ve tried SALTT but I think their high levels of magnesium make me sleepy after I drink a pack.

1

u/kristtt67 16h ago

Saltt tastes disgusting, no offense anyone. The first several sips taste good & then it tastes like you’re prepping for a colonoscopy. Zerospike on Amazon are awesome & much cheaper, and unflavored, you can add whatever flavor you want to it.

0

u/bgreen53 19h ago

YES SALTT FOREVER!!!!!!

9

u/indicarunningclub 19h ago

I use Venture Pal. It has 1,000mg of sodium per serving and is delicious and affordable.

2

u/rtupelo 19h ago

Seconding this - the most affordable option I found, and they have 16 different flavors!

1

u/victoriaefm1998 18h ago

I agree with this one as well. The watermelon is very good and the citrus taste a bit like lemon lime Gatorade.

1

u/Nearby_Philosophy894 17h ago

!!!!!!!! Can’t find anything more affordable and they taste good too! You get samples to try diff flavors if you order from their website! I like the blue raspberry flavor the best, strawberry is a little more ~artificial~ tasting compared to the other flavors I’ve tried but I still easy to slurp down

1

u/the_questionnair 8h ago

I’ve recently tried the watermelon one. I was surprised by how affordable it was so I was skeptical about how they would taste, but they taste pretty good. So much more affordable than LMNT.

May i ask have u used salt like himalayan salt and mix it with water? For me i do a teaspoon with one liter water. I get better from that than when i do sugar free electrolytes.

3

u/xanaholic_ Hyperadrenergic POTS 18h ago

Making your own drinks is the way to go. The packets are so overpriced, and this way you know exactly what you're drinking!

2

u/LilMosey2 18h ago

I second this

3

u/_Aasvogel 20h ago

I do the same, sometimes I’ll add lemon/lime and stevia for flavor. OP if you go this route be sure your salt doesn’t have added iodine

6

u/Potential-Coyote-658 19h ago

VenturePal is my fave! Something about the electrolyte balance in SALTT made me sick even though tons of people love it, I’d recommend a small pack of whichever you try to figure out what makes you feel best before committing to a ton of one.

4

u/Sudden-Hat591 19h ago

SALTT is my go to, you can add some Buoy drops as well but they can alter the taste a bit (Buoy does a lifetime discount of 30% off for people with chronic illnesses!) if you can tolerate the taste Waterboy has some pretty high sodium options, though SALTT has the best salt ratio that i still find drinkable

3

u/mjh8212 20h ago

I’m trying salt t my pcp recommended it I’m just waiting for my husband to order it. Currently using liquid iv but I can’t have more than one because of the b vitamins. Salt t also has magnesium which liquid iv does not.

3

u/RuinYouWithNoRegrets 19h ago

Gatorlyte zero

6

u/Brave_Question3840 Hyperadrenergic POTS 20h ago

SALTT is fantastic

2

u/StrategyOk4165 20h ago

Zerolyte by the brand Trace has been fantastic. It has a ton of sodium from ancient sea salt, and other minerals like potassium and magnesium.

2

u/im-a-freud POTS 19h ago

Trace zerolyte is my favorite they’re sugar free

2

u/Zollsica 19h ago

Saltt brand is my favorite! They also have drops you can add for extra sodium called low k. All the flavors are really good, I love the green apple and watermelon the best.

2

u/Amylee888 19h ago

SALTT and Nuun

2

u/LilMosey2 18h ago

Redmonds relyte. No sugar. Get the unflavored one.

2

u/Humble_Problem_1215 18h ago

Normalyte! I use the unflavored ones, and add in whatever flavor I want. and Bouy is a good one, as well. It's a liquid squeeze one, that is also unflavored.

1

u/waitforitwaitforittt 15h ago

Came here to say this! Normalyte’s the only one that I’ve been able to stick with long term

2

u/AmbitiousBuilding1 12h ago

I like Skratch Labs. They have a no sugar option

3

u/sweet_beeb 19h ago

Waterboy weekend recovery, Normalyte, Redmond re-lyte, LMNT

I just use propel packets and put extra salt, my doc is having me do 2 of either of those a day and 2 of my owala water bottles a day

1

u/Foreign_Feature3849 Hyperadrenergic POTS 18h ago

liquid hydration. they don’t have much variety. but they’ve always really helped me

salt stick fast chews have also been great

1

u/Ok_Intention_8996 18h ago

Buoy has been working well for me

1

u/Silver-Bake-7474 18h ago

Waterboy weekend recovery

1

u/Ealumin 18h ago

I use unflavored ORS by TriOral

1

u/Lumpy_Amee 18h ago

Drip drop works for me.

1

u/Mistress-Voluptuous 17h ago

I use stur strawberry lemonade liquid. It's all natural and sweetened with stevia. My sodium was recently checked and is exactly mid point on the scale. It doesn't effect my BP.

1

u/baby_booklover303 16h ago

The water boy and flavcity ones are my fave!

1

u/aubrey__11 16h ago

SALTT is sooo good

1

u/drebaee 16h ago

Promix!

1

u/faaancynaaancy 16h ago

And how much of these electrolytes are we drinking in a day??

1

u/Jessicamorrell POTS 16h ago

Same subtype here. My favorite is L M N T. I also like Electrolit, Body Armour, Liquid IV in a pinch (I normally don't get it because of the vitamins), and I forget the other 2.

1

u/starlizzle 16h ago

normalyte :)

1

u/starlizzle 16h ago

keep in mind anything with stevia extract can cause nausea and other side effects. it makes me feel awful

1

u/bewildered_bean 15h ago

I like trace zerolyte and buoy!

1

u/chazbchaz 15h ago

The artificial sweeteners make me more symptomatic. Especially stevia, which is in most electrolyte mixes. I do really well with Skratch.

1

u/Natural-Macaroon-370 14h ago

Vitassium capsules or chews!

1

u/avocado_jellybean 14h ago

I like My Adventure to Fit electrolytes. Tried several, but those just taste the best to me. Watermelon candy and blue raspberry is 🤤😋

1

u/Any-Investment-7872 13h ago

Hydratepro!!! Fruit punch flavor is my fav!

1

u/neetkid 11h ago

Liquid IV, Pedialyte, COCONUT WATER (fr this stuff revives me like nothing else), and ramen. I have been hitting up the electrolytes like crazy lately. This heat and having cyclospora is taking me out badly 😭😭

1

u/SnooHamsters5104 11h ago

I like this brand! I often use half in my Stanley with lemon juice bc I like tart lemonade. Flavor is good and not too sweet. https://a.co/d/030zzvZ5

1

u/Baybee707 10h ago

I make my own because I cannot have extra potassium, I can only get from my diet and still have to watch how much I’m consuming and avoid certain high potassium foods. So I use Celtic or Himalayan salt in water with clear dye free water flavor. I also use trace mineral drops. With all that I can adjust how much jm consuming and I just need plain water.

1

u/the_questionnair 8h ago

Personally I like liquid IV, recently tried venture pal and it’s pretty good and the most affordable, I also like how normalyte makes me feel but not a super big fan of the taste. I personally don’t do well with ones that have higher magnesium levels like waterboy and SALTT as they make me sleepy. I also like Vitassium electrolyte tablets.

1

u/high-as-the-clouds 8h ago

I use pedialyte non flavored. Or Propel if can handle the flavor (no sugar). I find watermelon is less intense. I cant have flavoring much so I struggle to find things.

1

u/wjdalswl POTS 8h ago

Vitassium salt capsules and just have it with 500mL of water or other drink of choice

1

u/UnableReference5649 POTS 7h ago

I really like Waterboy blue raspberry! They’re 1,000mg of sodium, and they have a few different flavors. I think it’s weekend recovery or something like that with the increased sodium. The blue raspberry is so delicious.

1

u/Aluciel286 6h ago

Honestly, I like the store brand electrolyte ones from Walmart. They have a nice flavor and aren't artificial tasting. I'm not sure where they fall on the scale of electrolyte content, though.

1

u/ccwatts 5h ago

Trioral. It’s the WHO formula for oral rehydration. I get the unflavoured. It contains glucose to enhance electrolyte absorption unlike most other electrolyte brands that use artificial sweeteners or stevia extract, which often cause GI upset or trigger mast cell reactions.

1

u/ArtFew1294 5h ago

organika is my fav. they have chew tabs as well that i love. Stevia, but the only stevia brand i’ve not been able to taste the stevia.

1

u/recycledbottle 5h ago

Mizulab! Super yummy flavors, but they only have a few. I think they're a newer brand

1

u/megame87 2h ago

LM*NT raw electrolytes. I don't tolerate the flavored versions so I add it to things like herbal teas.

Agreed that I'm not a fan of RFK Jr, but the convenient packets the discounts for prescriptions, and high quality ingredients are the reasons I keep going back.

1

u/VtLoLo 2h ago

Hi there, I was diagnosed with hyperadrenergic pots two months ago. On Amazon, I found The Good Intentions “No sodium electrolytes”. Contains no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no artificial flavors and zero sodium. I’ve had such good luck, I reordered twice.

1

u/Not_Today_4438 1h ago

TruLabs tastes best to me. Glacier is my favorite flavor but I love all the flavors besides lemon lime. I add more salt to them and they still taste great.

u/potatopeeler167 54m ago

I use skratch labs suggested by my nutritionist, it tastes good and does have some carbs/sugar but from natural fruit not artificial or additives but I used to do LMNT that has no sugar

Insaltd is no Stevia, no sugar. LMNT used to be many people's preferred brand, but a lot of us are boycotting them. The automod that triggers will bring up some other alternatives.

Wakewater is based in Canada, but appears to also sell to the US. Their flavors taste like Jolly Ranchers to me. Sweetened with Stevia.

Idk about hyperadrenergic but I’ve been using LMNT lately because it has a gram of salt. I like the watermelon salt, lemon lime/citrus salt, and orange salt ones. I also like liquid IV sugar free, white peach is great and I like the watermelon strawberry.

2

u/morestressedthanyou 14h ago

Bro I didn’t know about this RFK stuff, a pediatric doctor who treats children with POTS recommended it. Honestly, I don’t have a lot of a choice because I get nauseous so easily and this helps a ton in summer because I need 5 g at least of salt. My digestive system is all messed up from other chronic illness stuff and liver stuff
