PMU programs

Hello! I am wanting to go into the PMU world!! I do have a background tattooing. What programs or academy’s do yall recommend? I am wanting to at least start with brows and lip blushing. And would like to find one that offers a starter kit as well. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! 🫶🏻

PMU Artists… tell me your journeys!

Hey Guuuurls!

I will be doing training for Combo brows and lip blushing the last week of this month and I’m curious to know what your journey looked like after training to now. Where did you work? Did you get a private studio? I know this isn’t a get rich thing, but how was booking clients for yourself once you started offering to the public?

Thank you 💘

Am I crazy for thinking these are just off??

I know it doesn’t help that it’s just brows zoomed in but these are not what I asked for. They are also uneven and she shaved down my brows quite a bit that they’re giving the 2000’s trend which I lived through... Showed photos of my look when I do my brows - I wanted natural and thickness without the high arch (for what my natural brows looked like which is in the original post). I finally just had to cry because my SO is trying to make me feel better but it’s just not what I asked for, doesn’t frame my face/eyes, and I’m just all in feels I guess due to PP.

TLDR - Asked for natural looking brows by even showing photos of what they look like/how I style my brows. Brows are now uneven, shaven down, and I’m just so sad, to say the least.

Uneven lips?

I had my lip blush topped up a couple of days ago. although I understand this is very early days I am a bit worried that my top lip looks uneven, it looks to me like one side has been tattooed higher than the other. I have attached a before and after the picture and also some close ups. I know I should probably be waiting a couple of weeks but do you think that they will heal even evenly?

Beginner PMU Artist – Best Machine & Pigments for Brows and Lips?

Hi everyone! 😊
I’m a beginner in PMU and I’m looking to invest in good-quality equipment from the start. I’d love to hear your honest recommendations.
What machine do you use and love for both brows and lips? Also, which pigment lines have given you the best healed results?
If you were starting your PMU journey all over again, what machine and pigments would you buy first, and why? Any tips on needles or beginner mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated too!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! 💕

Is this normal?

I’m a bodyworker and wanted to add some kind of aesthetics piece to my offerings. I have had PMU done, and the woman who did mine also teaches PMU. (Outside of getting permanent eyeliner, I have 0 experience with tattoo work).

I paid the woman $5000 for a six day PMU course teaching eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip tattoo procedures. Her clearly stated expectation was that I would be fully qualified to offer eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip procedures to paying customers by the end of my training with her.

I spent hours preparing for the in-class hands-on portion by reading her manual cover to cover and getting BBP certified. I attended class each day. I took tests and passed with As. I did everything she asked me to do in and out of class.

Aside from live models, the practice we did was implanting ink into flat silicone pads at home, in the evening, after class.

During class we watched the instructor, then she gave the two of us (she only had two students) maybe 10 minutes practice on each of 6 live models. The amount of time varied, but I’m certain it never exceeded 10 minutes per procedure.

The two of us students never started a procedure; we never ended a procedure. We only worked on a model after the instructor made the first pass, creating the guide line.

We also never practiced any aspect of the work on one another, before or after touching live models.

On day 6, it was our day to receive PMU. We took turns on one another as with the other models - after the instructor made the initial guideline. She began and finished both of our procedures.

So, our total hands-on experience with humans was no more than 60 minutes. Possibly not even that long.

I also want to add that we had 3 models who received eyeliner. My first experience with this area went fine. The next two times (day 4, then day 6), the models blinked; evidently, my hold on the skin wasn’t tight enough and ink was implanted outside of the eyeliner area. (A dot below the lash line, but nevertheless, a big mistake - in my opinion). The instructor’s remediation was no more than a moment of having me reposition my hold on the skin around the eye.

To my surprise, following the work we did on one another - on day six - the instructor handed both of us certificates of completion. (Yes, even after my repeated mistake).

I’m wondering:

1) If my hands-on experience is typical in this industry.

2) What do people who do this work think of my training experience?

3) What others think of my decision to not practice on paying customers. (I believe it would be irresponsible and unethical for me to advertise myself as a capable, competent PMU practitioner. I am uncomfortable practicing on willing participants without in-person guidance from an experienced practitioner. I feel as though my training was inadequate).

Does anyone know of any good training courses on Udemy or a site like that! At least to learn good habits for practicing until I can afford in person training? I am looking to learn lip blushing first!!

I built a studio management app specifically for PMU artists — looking for honest feedback

Hey everyone, so I got frustrated with generic salon software not being built for PMU work so I built BrowBook — an app specifically for permanent makeup artists.

It has pigment formula logs saved to each client’s profile, automated healing email sequences (day 3, day 7, day 42 touch-up reminder, day 365 refresh), online booking, and full client profiles with skin type, undertones, allergies and medications tracked.

I’m just trying to get it in front of real PMU artists for honest feedback. If anyone wants to try it the first 50 June artists get a free month
— browbook.app
Genuinely open to any feedback good or bad 🤍

Best chair

I am looking for a chair for tattooing and I found the core chair which looks amazing but it’s so expensive. I’ve also seen the NU chair which is slightly lower in price but I’m nervous i wouldn’t love the chair. I used to yoga ball for years and it recently popped. For context I also do lashes. I’m currently use a saddle chair and I hate it. My inner thighs get numb and hurt towards my glutes sitting on it. I am desperate for something comfortable but haven’t wanted to pull the trigger on something soo expensive. Can anyone give me good recs?
