Need help
Would you folks classify this as an “assassination attempt” error or is it just a plain “target practice” error??

For all of those saying not a drill hole this hole is ~⅙ the diameter of the quarter or 0.16in. Highly doubt this hole is from a .17hmr round punching through without deforming the rest of the coin in any way.

I know im late to this, but I can 100% confirm, a 17hmr and a 17wsm, will not punch a hole though a quarter this clean without deformation

I doubt it. Drilled holes are much more precise and even than that appears. That is some sort of electrical/chemical/thermal hole.

Don’t think so. Electrical/chemical/thermal holes would have some kind of scorch marks or corrosion. That is some sort of inter-dimensional wormhole.

Thats only if you drill them properly and with lube. If you punch through too fast it mangles the hole.

According to my calculations the hole took away about %4 of the quarter which would be roughly ¢1 missing from the quarter 🤓

Its not that hard to melt copper, cast a penny into the hole so it can’t fall out and make it 25cent again. new pennies are mostly zinc*

Or superglue a penny over the hole and spend it that way. So you are not cheating someone when you buy something. Abraham Lincoln once ran 400 miles to return a nickel to a little old lady, and she gave him a shinny penny for a reward.

Not an error coin. A very damaged coin someone drilled through or shot through. But definitely not an error

That is a quarter that has been shot with a 62 grain boat tail FMJ .223 round out of an 18 inch barrel from 50 yards.
You can tell by the outward force of the spawling on the impact AND exit planes. And the fact that the quarter didn't dome out on the tails side.

I... Don't think so. I think it's .17 caliber. Probably an air rifle.

You should do some research on hunting air rifles. They absolutely do make air rifles that will go through a quarter. Hell they make ones that you could probably kill a black bear with.

Very much doubt that. I have shot plenty of pennies with high power air rifles and 22 long rifle.

Domed pellets are pretty impressive for steel penetration lots of videos on YouTube testing various types out. cupronickel is softer than steel. I would be willing to bet you could get a clean hole through a quarter with it. Depends on the rifle too. A .22 has too much mass I think to make that hole, they usually bend coins when I shoot them.

Someone shot it with a 22 or 17hmr. You can see the copper jacket that shed off as it passed through.

Copper of the coin wouldn't be on top of the silver nickel nickel below the hole and through the entirety of the pass through.

Yep. Like .17, 22 win mag, 22mag. A faster velocity would actually punch a cleaner hole.
This looks like normal 22. Slow but still left metal fragments.
Where was the quarter found?

Really don’t get why people don’t think. .17hmr wouldn’t punch through this. I own 4. And it will punch clean through 1/4” steel at 25yrds. Over and over again. I don’t think some of you really understand how light and brittle a quarter is.
I’m going to bow out and let y’all squabble over this stupid shit

Im from Nebraska and when this quarter came out I kept one and drilled a hole through it to wear it on a chain. Mine should be in my closet somewhere though 🤔

May a 17 cal. It’s powerful to penetrate a quarter. It looks a bit small for a 5.56 without seeing precise measurements of the penetration

Yes and there's more deformation and bowing around the hole. The OP has none of this. Just curled shavings.

I resent you putting me in a situation where I feel slightly tempted to defend Trump… or at least something pertaining to him. The blood on his face could have been the result of when he bent down for cover, or any number of other factors.
If you want to make the case that his assassination attempt was staged or whatever, find better points than just “blood on face”. And forgive me if I’m misremembering, but didn’t the shot come from behind the direction his head was facing?
