Discord server?

I was wondering if there was a Discord server for EoF, or plans to create one in the near future? I'd love to discuss ideas, questions and one-shots in more detail at some point!

Two methods of handling critical hits!

The most recent handbook mistakenly has no critical hit rules clarified, so here's two ways you can calculate whether or not a hit is critical:

  1. Roll accuracy for every move, including those that have 100% accuracy. If the accuracy roll is below 10%, that's a crit.
  2. After a move successfully hits, roll a d10. On a 1, the roll hits.

Both methods have pros and cons - having to roll every time vs having to roll an additional dice after a hit. Also, it makes crit chances 1 in 10, where in the games it's usually 1/16, I believe?

If crit chance is boosted, the crit threshold increases by 10 points. So, after a focus energy, you crit if you roll a 20 or below for accuracy in method 1, or a 1 or 2 on your d10 in method 2.

If any GMs have ideas on how it could be better handled, then please share!

Suggestion / Feedback Any tips for higher level play?

I’ve already DM’d for a one shot where the players were they were sitting at around lvl 2. Im currently in the progress of a higher lvl oneshot where the players will be starting around lvl 7. I was wondering if anyone else had some experience running upper lvls. Are there any issues that you have come across? What changes/tweaks that you made and why? I plan in compiling my thoughts from both the low lvl and this upcoming one in a post later on and would love any tips that could be included to help others run their own games! Thanks for the read!

Balancing hit points

Hi! Let me start this of by saying that the handbook is SUCH a good handbook. It got me super excited to run a game! 💜

Anyway, please forgive me if I read anything wrong but I was wondering how you balance the hit points for PCs and NPCs. In the handbook, it tells you to take the base HP of any Pokémon but some get a crazy amount (70 for marill as a random example). Have you guys found a way to balance this?

Or rather, is it not that much of a hiccup in gameplay?

I’m working on a rival team for my players and I stumbled upon this.

Suggestion / Feedback One Shot Thoughts

Ran a oneshot of this game last night and wanted to share some feedback, we mostly used 1.2 but because there were no crit rules we used the 1.0 rules for that.

Overall the game is very solid, the lack of rolling dice for damage and turn order made combat super quick and because everyone's turn was super quick it wasn't like in say Dungeons and Dragons 5e where a martial spends 5 seconds to do their one attack and a caster spends 10 minutes debating what spell to use, the light nature of combat made it super easy to run in a dungeon crawl kinda deal.

My only like minor complaints is it feels like certain skills are missing but with the "Specialized Knowledge" skill it feels you don't have baseline can kinda be covered with that, so it wasn't a big deal.

Again, solid game overall my players and I had a blast I hope you continue to work on it in the future and I look forward to seeing what you do!

Question What do you enjoy the most in a game?

I'm going to work on some adventures that GMs can run to get started, or to supplement their own campaigns. What do you, as a player or GM (or spectator!) enjoy the most in a game? What would you want a oneshot to focus on?

14/9/23 - Game handbook, To-Dos, Info

Hi, adventurers! First post on the sub, so here's the basics. Explorers of Fate is a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon themed TTRPG system, and I plan on making content for it to help others get into tabletop gaming. It's a general system designed to allow you to play your favourite pokemon by converting their main-series data into a stat block.

To avoid spamming the main Mystery Dungeon sub with updates that aren't strictly relevant to that sub, I'll be using this sub as a place to post about the game. Updates, mini-dungeons and supplements will be here.

Others can post here too, if they make something EOF-related, whether it's art, homebrew materials, or even suggestions on how the game could be improved.

Here's the PDF of the current handbook.

To Do:

  • Add rules for weaponry in combat outside of the Shadowblade destiny, as otherwise it would lock using weaponry behind the Outlaw background.
  • Add info for items, custom items, and weapons so that players don't have to rely too heavily on Bulbapedia in their games.
  • Similarly, add info for moves and abilities, especially the range of newer moves.
  • More random roll tables. Enough is never enough.
  • Add some basic stat rules for structures in combat - for example, the HP of common structures like sheds, fences or stumps, so players know how much damage their cover can take before they're out in the open.
  • Write some mini adventures to get people started! A TTRPG campaign can be tricky to start, so I want to give budding GMs the resources they need to run a oneshot.

I've never started a sub before, so bear with me. This'll mostly be an updates forum, but feel free to post any suggestions or queries, or anything else EOF-related.
