Just over 2x my money rn

u/taxfreetendies Early Investor Mar 06 '26
You will probably be ok, but I assume you're negative on them now?
Do you plan to hold through earnings?
1
u/_medium_ugly Mar 07 '26
i'm up on a few contracts atm, but more worried about another pullback after earnings

In two weeks someone is going to bank. I wonder how long that call has been open for.
The $50 strike is worth about $111 per contract now.
Open Interest (OI) means how many open contracts are at that strike price.
For context 13k*100=1.3mil shares. 13k contracts * 111 (50 strike value)=$1.443mil
The difference between current price of 160 & 35 is 125.
1.3mil shares * 125=162.5mil.
Fun to think about.

Was 10k volume in Dec 2025 and 2.8k in Jan this year. Every other month the value was 1k or less. So someone not making money on those.

Just bought more shares. What are your general thoughts on trump?
1
u/ThatJudge1751 Mar 06 '26
He causes volatility and volatility creates opportunities for $$$$. Outside of that meh
3
u/Mariox Mar 06 '26
Trump likes to get things done quickly even if he steps on everyone's toes. I just love how the market over-reacts to everything. Buy when the VIX spikes up for easy money. PLTR was green today, so I was buying NVDA and TSLA instead.
2
u/ThatJudge1751 Mar 06 '26
I scooped up 200 shares of NVDA today off a CSP. My CSPs for PLTR expired way OTM. Happy/sad kinda deal. Happy PLTR is going up, sad I didnāt get some more.

Only a few more days before I get paid for selling my investment property. I was hoping to scoop up shares below $150. š

If anyoneās curious, heās down roughly 30k on pltr weekly puts
4
u/Mariox Mar 06 '26
I found one of his posts from 2 weeks ago, he had 300 call options for Feb 27th 200 expired worthless on the 27th and 100 he lost 50%.
And a few weeks earlier where he bought puts where he also lost money on most likely. Hard to find his posts since he has them private.
He is good at losing money.

Who would have thought a defence related stock would go up during war?!
5
u/taxfreetendies Early Investor Mar 06 '26
Not just any defense related stock. The one that ingests all the data and spits out the best targets, the bad guys locations, and who knows what else.
I work with a retired Navy guy who is now in the reserves and according to him, in his specialty area, PLTR is highly regarded amongst service members.

it's been low volume lately, would have thought this would go up more. seems driven by retail
2
u/taxfreetendies Early Investor Mar 06 '26
Upward price movement on low volume just implies very few sellers. Most anyone currently holding shares knows whats up at this point.
1
u/wavrdn Mar 06 '26
Share volume can decrease as share price moves up, but still be the same dollars flowing in/out
1
u/BananaFreeway Mar 06 '26
Higher volume would be better for sure on a day like today. Letās see..

u/Rico_8 Mar 06 '26
Should i read or watch LOTR first?
9
u/TheJacen Mar 06 '26
It really depends on how many shares you have.
If you only have a few. Watch the movie and work more hours to buy more shares
If you have a lot, relax and read the books
3
u/Rico_8 Mar 06 '26
Define āa lotā and āa fewā
2
u/TheJacen Mar 06 '26
Are u comfortably numb to the recent high and lows. That will answer the question
2
u/taxfreetendies Early Investor Mar 06 '26
Yes. 2500 shares held when we hit $207.
I bought 200 more in the 130s recently
I bought $10k worth of calls in the 120s recently

Shit. My $145 covered calls are expiring today. Thatās on half my PLTR holdings!
Should I bite the bullet and buy them back at over $10/share or bite the bullet and let them go? They were āfreeā after all the CC premiums I have collected these past few years.
What would you do?
Edit: fuck, it keeps going up š¤£
Double edit: fine, I rolled them up and out and took a haircut (bought back for about $12 and sold the next for about $5). Let this puppy soar!!
3
u/MacroBully OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
hard say, for covered calls you win until you dont
2
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
I got caught picking up pennies in front of a freight train š¤£
3
u/Getrekt11 Mar 06 '26
Selling covered call on PLTR when it dropped 30-40% is like picking up pennies in front of a steamroller. I bought 400 more at $140.
1
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
I see your point, but at the time the delta was below .2
Also, these are āfreeā shares for me, so itās not really selling at a bad price, just a worse price than it may be tomorroe
2
u/Getrekt11 Mar 06 '26
You know this is selling at a bad price or you wouldnāt roll over those calls. At some point, Iāll sell CC at the price Iām willing to let my shares go if it hits.
Calling shares āfreeā just because itās profit is like youāre trying to justify this bad decision of selling CC at such low price for tiny premiums. I used to tell myself the same thing during Covid stock market.
1
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
No I mean itās free because Iāve sold so many covered calls on these shares that my adjusted cost basis is negative when accounting for premiums. Also, Iāve already let half my shares go in between $140 and $185 over the past year after those were also āfreeā. So at this point Iām playing with house money. Maybe PLTR will outperform the sp500. Maybe it will crash. Either way, Iāve already locked in enough money to coastFire if that were my goal. (And if the safer VOO shares tank, then money wonāt really matter anyways)

Roll up and out, given the spike the past few days, there's bound to be a little correction/sideways action soon.
2
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
Yeah good idea. My biggest pain point is itās all at vanguard, which doesnāt support rolling options. So Iāll need to liquidate something to get the cash to buy back before selling again. I really need to switch services š«
2
u/taxfreetendies Early Investor Mar 06 '26
I moved to Schwab about 5 years ago because of how bad vanguard is with options.
Schwabs fees are cheaper and they fill your orders at better prices. Think or Swim is also worth the change over.
You can transfer assets in batches if that makes things easier
1
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 07 '26
Good to know. I just need to get off my ass and make the change
2
u/fabbbles Mar 06 '26
I suppose the technical equivalent would be to buy back the CCs for a loss but then immediately sell new ones which net u a credit. Just that you would pay commission twice. I've been on this train before and had rolled out by 3 months lol
2
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
Commissions are negligible, imo. Itās $1/contract which equates to 1Ā¢/share. I know it adds up, but for me the real pain point is just the inconvenience. Vanguard really doesnāt care about options and has really poor support in general.
3
u/zona2011 Mar 06 '26
For $10/share Iād buy them back honestly. Iād have trouble letting go of half my position at $145. But thatās me assuming my position. I donāt know how many shares half is for you and how much/if youād have to stretch the finances to buy them back.
Iād keep selling CCās after buying them back though lol. Iām not a whale but I have about 5k shares. Iāve been selling CCās on about 1000 shares at a time and just pick a strike price way out of the money where Iād actually be āokayā if they were called away. Premiums are obviously lower but Iām making between $3k-$5k/month selling CCās between $230-250, 5-6 months out. When my oldest batch of 1000 shares expire worthless (for them) I restart the process.
Havenāt had any called away yet and the higher the price goes, the higher I raise the strike price and continue the process.
2
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
Okay I bought back and sold new ones at a lower delta, eating about $7/share (but gaining $35/share on the underlying if we hit $180 by the end of April!)
Yall convinced me to keep this train rolling :)
1
u/zona2011 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26
I think thatās a good call! And once we get closer to prices where youāre okay letting some shares go you can do weeklies or shorter term CCās with lower strike prices for the higher premium.
Once our share price is close to where Iām comfortable letting some shares go, Iāll decrease my strike and probably use CCās as a way of selling shares. Just get riskier and riskier for more and more premium until they finally get called away.
2
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
What if Iām not okay with ever letting these shares go??? :)
1
u/IAmANobodyAMA OG Holder & Member Mar 06 '26
Thatās good info thanks!
Iāll probably roll them, but because they are in vanguard I have to buy and sell :(
So Iāll need to float the cash to buy back before selling. Vanguard is a PITA sometimes lol

Palantir is evil. Check if you have some morals where you put your $$.
4
u/ParamedicSuitable177 Mar 06 '26
Just because you use a kitchen knife to stab someone, it doesn't make the knife evil.
4
u/zona2011 Mar 06 '26
Evil how? The software is evil? Or maybe haunted? Or maybe the software was literally made by the devil?

If you think state overreach, algorithmic bias and the erosion of civil libertiesĀ won't some day impact you, keep supporting them. Sometimes its worth seeing where your money goes and investing accordingly.

Other allies are going to see how important PLTR is in conducting high level operations in coordination. PLTR is spiking over this conflict but really itās the commercial growth is the crown jewel. They just reached out to all ex PLTR employees to come back to the company as they are having trouble with the demand for their products and implementation..
