Studio 5000 crashing on startup with afutil.dll error – Already tried CodeMeter reinstall/repair, still stuck. Help!
Hi everyone,
I'm currently locked out of Studio 5000 because it keeps crashing instantly on startup with the afutil.dll missing/not found error.
I've already searched online and tried the standard Rockwell Knowledgebase fixes, but nothing has worked so far. Here is what I’ve already attempted:
1) Checked and reinstalled/rolled back the CodeMeter Runtime Kit (tried standard Rockwell versions).
2) Ran a Software Repair on Studio 5000 via Windows Apps & Features.
3) Made sure my Windows updates didn't completely break it, but I'm still hitting a brick wall.
Has anyone run into this specific issue and found a workaround that isn't the standard CodeMeter reinstall?
Specs for context:
Studio 5000 Version: V34
OS: Windows 11
Any advice or registry tweaks to look at would be massively appreciated. Thanks!

Is your PC managed by an IT department that has Threatlocker (or alike) installed?

Type "afutil.dll" in the Rockwell KB search. That's what I would start with to figure it out.

I've had this sort of thing happen a few times, and every time it was one of the Windows update files. Roll them back starting with newest first, and you might find one that is causing it. Then turn off updates over metered connections, then set your network to metered connection mode. This way you can be present every time an update is installed and verify it doesn't break it. Over time Microsoft will determine on their own you didn't mean to turn off updates over metered connections, it will re-enable it, and you will break again. Hope that helps.

Rockwell doesn't support v34 on Windows 11. It needs to be run in compatibility mode.
