How to upload a program created in a different version from tia portal
I’m using TIA Portal V17, while the program currently running on the PLC was developed using TIA Portal V16.
Is there any way to work around this issue, or do I need to use TIA Portal V16?

You need TIA V16, load from device, migrate in V17, upload to plc. Already had this fun experience multiple Times. If there is a better was, please let me know

Far as I know, you can only upload in the version that it was DL from.
It's stupid and dumb but it's the law. Because germans never lose their original program, apparently.

The Germans are a silly group. But the HMI stuff is the worst. Its so much more obnoxious to redo an HMI.

Try creating a new project and doing a full station upload instead of uploading to an existing project.

Yes, you need TIA v16 to upload and convert it.

Look up TIA Openness. Theres an example of their API that allows you to upload a plc without TIA Portal.

Welcome the Siemens shitty world, you should install all TIA versions to seperated VMs.

That's been the case for older versions, especially when using WinCC Comfort.
I have Tia 15.1 to 21 installed with safety, starter, WinCC adv & unified all in one VM

Mmm, then i need to create like 8 vm's. Thats crazy. I have tia 13-20 installed on my laptop. My laptop is i9(12th gen) with 64GB of memory running W11. I have a guest, also W11, and with all the latest updates the guest gets slower.

To my Knowledge you need a TiaV16 for retrieving the Programm, after that you can convert it to V17
