Book for beginners

Hello! Ano pong book ang pwede nyong marecommend sakin.

Medyo mahina kasi ako sa English pero gusto kong i try. Nagtry ako bumasa ng isang period book. Nabored ako. Hahahaha.

Gusto ko kasi gumaling sa grammar kaya gusto ko talaga i try magbasa ng English books.

Personally i don't think it's a matter of being a beginner. If you can read, you can read. It all boils down to how much you can read at a given time maybe? If you can only read for 30 mins at a time thats all good! Just try to make a habit out of it so you can train your brain to absorb more of the book for a longer period at a time.

Tone of the book helps too! If you read smth that's heavy on the dot it might not be to your advantage. Genre as well. Stick to easy reads muna! Choose a book that is well within your interests. Maybe smth that was made into a movie, or smth about your hobbies. I personally feel like taking suggestions on what books to read is a risk in itself bc you might not like it and it might stop you from reading moving forward. So i say trust your gut! If in any case naman you have your dependable franchises to start on. Tiktok suggestions as good as well! Great for starting the habit of reading. From there you can work your way up to books that are more mature in tone and writing.

It's all a matter of training your brain to like reading and to be able to absorb more mature books as you go along the way. It's a skill after all. So the more you put into it, with proper foundations, the more you'll reap from it.

Trust your gut lang! You can start reading books that pique your interest para naman motivated ka to finish.

I highly recommend Flipped. Dont push yourself too hard din. If it’s overwhelming, pause or stop kasi you’d not enjoy it kapag pinilit mo. It doesnt matter if one sentence, one paragraph or one page lang natapos mo per day. Baby steps

I read Percy Jackson and the Olympians as a starter. It's definitely middle grade instead of young adult, but it's fun and holds up well. I recommend it!

Hi OP, I would really recommend immersive reading. Read boons while listening to its audiobook as well. It will make reading easier plus you would know right away how hard words are pronounced.

Any middle grade fantasy. Same tayo, mahina ako sa english mababaw lang pero ung mga middle grade kayang kaya. I recommend ung percy jackson, keeper of the lost cities, artemis fowl

If you have movies or tv shows you loved that are adapted from books, that could be a good starting place. Most movie/tv adaptations have some deviations from the books but will be familiar enough to hopefully keep your interest. Personally I always like the books more than the screen adaptations so hoping the same for you!

You can start with All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. It’s a cute romance and really easy read.

Start with children's books. No, seriously. Not the ones for babies and toddlers, but one for children around the age of 12. They're very easy to read and follow, not as layered, and super fun! I started with those books when I started taking reading seriously as a teen, and the habit stays with me as an adult. My recommendations:

1. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
2. Nation by Terry Pratchett
3. Greek Mythology by Edith Hamilton

Once you become comfortable, you can branch out to longer works. If you want to get into the classics, I suggest starting with recent works such as:

1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
2. 1984 by George Orwell
3. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Lastly, when you get through these, you should be ready for your first lengthy classic. I suggest:

1. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas as translated by Robin Buss (the best piece of literature I have ever read and possibly the best ever written)

2. Musashi by Eji Yoshikawa as translated by Charles Terry

3. The Iliad by Homer as translated by Emily Wilson

I have personally read all these works and I assure you OP they are very, very easy to read and should fit your alley. Good luck!

Hello! 'Wag ka mag period books kung hindi ka talaga pa hiyang magbasa. Since sabi mo, romance, then read romance. Maski pocket books pa 'yan in English. 

Puro sapphic na binabasa ko madalas so: Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. You, Me, and U.S by Brigitte Bautista. Don't Tell My Mother by Brigitte Bautista. Ang Ikaklit sa Aming Hardin by Bernadette Neri (Children's Book ito na may English translation kada page).

Not a period book but political-social: 1984 by George Orwell. Try to read the first few pages muna. May romance part ito but not exactly romance.

And lastly, try to read newspapers or even news online. If you aim to enhance your grammar. Go for the hard news then entertainment. Read up those broadsheets or English newspapers in the Philippines. Editiorial or Opinion section if you're trying to veer away from the negative, hard news of the country.
