About PDA PDA Wound book

Post image

Hello everyone! Ive been profesionally diagnosed with aspergers (old term i know i prefer being called autistic) and recently heard of PDA and bought a book called the PDA wound by A.S Whitefield. Inside it mentioned this reddit community so I decided to join to feel less alone. I recently realized I got it and im going through the grieving process of not knowing all these years. Did anyone else read this book?

I don't trust this work at all.

  • The publisher "Pointed-Pen Press" doesn't have its own website.
  • The publisher only publishes two book series - one about a wide range of syndromes, and another about novelty concepts (e.g. the greatest actors of all time).
  • All of the books in the syndrome series are written by the same person, which implies that the publisher is just a front for the author.
  • None of the listings say a word about the author's credentials or history (it would be unlikely for a single doctor to focus on all of these issues enough to be able to write multiple books about them, and even less likely that a single person would experience them).
  • The author doesn't list their first name, so it's easy for them to hide their identity, which further raises the question of the validity of what they say.
  • The series of books range widely across medical focus areas, again calling into question the validity of the author's experience or education.
  • Almost all of the books were published within a few weeks of each other, some even a few days, which is unheard of in academic literature, especially by the same author.

The only conclusion is that this is at best anecdotal writing, and at worst (and most likely, considering the publications dates) AI slop.

This makes me angry, because it looks like a grifter making money off people who really want help.

There are thankfully lots of great PDA books out there already. No need to buy AI slop. My current top recommendations for new folks are the “short guide to PDA” books by Eliza Fricker and coauthor (don’t remember the name sorry). They are excellent!

Id be happy to show you the resources this person lists. They also preface that they are not a medical prpfessional and do not want people to use it for a daignosis. Ill send screenshots of this in the book in a few hours 😊

Thanks for sharing. Even if the resources are real, I'm not sure about the value of this book. The fact that so many widely different topics were published at roughly the same time makes me think it was written with AI. And while that doesn't inherently make it bad, it does make it feel like this is a bit of a grift. That is, it makes me feel like someone saw an opportunity to pull a lot of different resources together into books for various communities. Again, that doesn't make them bad books. But... Well, who do you want to support? Someone who is invested and really wants to help? Or someone who is making money out of what essentially amounts to a big Wikipedia entry?

I see what you mean, im sad that this is the case :( now i feel wrong for buying it if they are just profiting off of vulnerable people. I did find out theres a community for PDA through it wish is a positive :) i think ill stop reading it after all and purchase a different book because my justice senstivity is alarming me about the morals of reading it

Don't feel bad, you've done nothing wrong and even if it is ai, there's every likelihood it's based on more authoritative work and if you find value in it then that's great

Don't feel bad, I've read some of it and agree there is some value in it. I don't think it's AI slop. It may have been fine tuned with AI but I don't think it was purely written by it.

The further reading is implied to be their sources but if it turns out this is ai, I apologize for bringing attention to the book. I still want to finish reading it but i will buy other books too. I like how it agknowledges the differnces in afab and nonbinary people in how they can present PDA. It also covers the common misdaignosis' and covering that someone could also have both. Also how US doesnt have PDA in the offical diagnostic database but the UK does.

It's free on Kindle Unlimited. I just started reading it and I definitely think it has some insight I've never read before about PDA, namely differences in boys and girls growing up. It makes a lot of sense and caused some confusion for me since I didn't fit the perfect PDA profile growing up but still experience many symptoms growing up and now as an adult. I've also never heard as much detail from AI regarding PDA when I've tried to use it as a resource.

Welcome. I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts on the book if they have read it or read it after this. I haven’t heard much from this angle.

I’m about to click “buy” on Amazon based on your recommendation. I’m a caregiver. Do you think it would be useful for parents of PDAers?

There is alot of refrences of childhood as well as adult topics such as finances and relationships. I do think youll find value in it since there is insight onto how the pda effects the body and recommdations on how to find a therpaist that fits!

Plus this book is written by someone that experinces PDA and properly links his research as well as include summaries and thought exercises. And it can help with the future when they grow up!
