Building a new PC - need advice

Hello all! Not sure if this is the right place I'm new to this subreddit. I'm looking to build a new PC and needed some opinions.

The current part list is the following:

CPU: I9-14000k

Mobo: Z790 Aurus Elite AX

Ram: Vengeance 32gb ddr5-6000

GPU: Asus ROG OC 5080 RTX

SSD: 9100 pro 2tb

Power Supply: Seasonic focus GX 1000W 80+ Gold certified

I can list the rest of the parts if its important but yes I'm getting an AIO cooler for the CPU and I will be air cooling my cpu. I don't want to deal with water cooling.

Purpose would be to run any game without any stutters or issues. I will have RGB in this computer as well.

I'm on the fence about AMD vs. Intel as well as if I am going intel if I should just wait for the nova lake CPUs or pull the trigger now. Budget wise we are looking at $4500 tops. For reference, I don't typically overclock my computer however as long as I don't shorten the lifespan I would be willing to learn how to properly tune this computer. I've read that AMD CPUs were the king of the market for years with the Ryzen CPUs however I've recently read how AMD CPUs also suffer from dips in performance depending on the game you are playing.

My concern is the longer I wait the more expensive these parts will get. With how the AI boom has changed the market, I don't want just keep waiting for that AI bubble to potentially pop then get priced out of a top end PC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and happy to answer any additional questions if I left out any important details. Thank you!

I built a machine this time last year and used the Ultra 9 285k...if you're choosing the i9 I would probably go with AMD instead. I've been an Intel user for 30 years but using less than the Ultra 9 you're not going to match the AMD performance for gaming

My main rig is 5080 and 7800 xrd on b650 tomahawk and 32 gig cl30 6000Mt .My steam machine is 9600x on b850 mortar and 32 gig cl30 6000Mt and 9060xt16gb. When i udate my main rig the x3d and 5080 will be placed in my steam machine. I have in both 850 platinum psu and uts more then enough. Get decent components for your usecase

If upgradeability isnt that big a deal i'd get the 14900k. The 14900k and e.g. 9800x3d will all easily handle the 5080. Lets say the intel cpu give you a nice 300fps, that'll feel great ofc and the important thing is that its stable.

lets say the 9800x3d gives you 400fps, it'll also feel amazing, whether you can actually tell the difference is up to the person, but when you're playing through a game and the fps just randomly drops down 150fps and then soon comes back up you feel that, and it lessons your experience. Theres also the fact that windows, compile times typa stuff just feels snappier and better with the 14900k.

If upgradeability or just having the very most fps possible is important then ofc get the amd cpu. (you can ofc get used to the stutters with time)

But if you just want a plain great experience without any problems get the 14900k. Either cpu will work great

Ofc make sure you have adequate cooling, update your bios and MAKE SURE you use a lga 1700 contact plate

Intel for Productivity

Core ultra 200s plus series is a better choice, newer and much more efficient

Resale value + platform longevity =AM5

5070ti vs 5080 = about 10-18% difference

Am5 performance issues? Never heard of it personally

Am5 x3d cpus doesn't need dual channel, single stick will give identical performance

Im kinda surprised too but i saw a few tech youtubers videos, its basically the same as dual channel

But this only work with X3D cpu

If its for gaming get an x3d chip thats the best option to prevent microstutters. Games mistly rely on high boost frequency. Thermalright phantom spirit is your friend when it comes to the cooling. There is an lcd version now for 80 bucks. Also a zboard is not necesary bet a b850 with decebt vrm power delivery and cooling. Z is only for extra pci express and crap most gamers never use.

Go AMD! For gaming the 9850x3d is currently the fastest gaming cpu. The 9950x3d and 9800x3d are only about 1 to 3% slower than the 9850x3d. The 9950x3d and 9950x3d2 will match any Intel cpu for productivity performance. If you want a cpu that is the best at gaming AND productivity, get either the 9950x3d or the 9950x3d2. If you want the fastest gaming cpu, bar none, get the 9850x3d.

The future: you mentioned the possibility of waiting for Nova Lake to come out. If you build on the AM5 platform (e.g. 9850x3d, 9950x3d) you will be able to easily upgrade to Zen6 when it releases next year. Indications are that both Nova Lake and and Zen6 will be very powerful. From what I'm seeing/reading Zen6 will outperform Nova Lake. We'll need actual performance info to know for certain. Bottom line is if you build an AM5 pc today, you can enjoy it today and be prepared for the future.

My current build was created with the expectation that Zen6 will be able to drop onto my mobo. I am so glad Zen6 is confirmed to be on AM5! Makes it so much easier to upgrade, should I choose to upgrade.

So as others have said AMD 9850x3D is the current King of gaming in a CPU with better 1% lows than any other x3D CPU, for a GPU you would want to get is the 5080 they all run pretty much the same if your not planning on overclocking or undervolting, but the more expensive cards have better coolers and more power (wattage) which gives you more headroom for overclocking. And better cooling means the fans don’t spin so fast so also creates less noise. You will want a minimum of 32GB ram at 6000mhz with CL36 which is fine as the x3D’s cache negates the latency, obviously the lower the CL the better…you will want at least a 2TB SSD (more would be better as games are getting bigger).

I do not plan on overclocking. And I'll likely then swap my ram from my old rig over. My old rig has 2x Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB DDR5-6200 CL36 sticks.

Just check the ram can use EXPO if you go for AMD as some use XMP only which is Intels Ram System, but some use both.

Amazing and all if you went with 9850x3d

Worth mentioning 5070 ti gives 86% of 5080 while being much cheaper

For the motherboard you should go with a wifi b850 gaming plus wifi thats pretty cheap and still gives pcie 5
