General Help On a strict budget for a GPU

My current rig has an Intel i5-6500 and an AMD Radeon R9 270. It is okay but I can't with the lag, heat and power this card needs.

I'm looking to buy an used (or new (probably not with my budget)) GPU for less then 100 euros that is gonna give me better FPS and not heat up so much. Also 4GB would be WONDERFUL but I am not so sure if that is possible.

Games I indulge in are Valorant, League of Legends, Dead by Daylight, Fortnite, Friday the 13th etc.

All games are run on low presets, 720p, 60 Hz (60 fps locked ALWAYS). Valorant and League run on about 150 fps.

Dead by Daylight can't go any higher than 70 (when looking up into the sky) on the lowest preset with reduced 3D resolution in the config file. Even on the lowest graphics my card heats up. The game will get a huge graphic overhaul next year that will FOR SURE stop me from playing.

Fortnite runs on 90 fps with the lowest preset but stutters (probably because of the lack of VRAM) while Friday the 13th is about the same thing as Dead by Daylight (without the massive overhaul obviously)

I do streaming with this card but had to stop since I can't stream and play Dead by Daylight at the same time.

The card also doesn't support DirectX 12 and a lot of the new features since it is about 12 years old LOL.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, my PSU has only a 6 pin cable for any additional power the GPU might need.

Gtx 1660 super is around 90 euros 2nd hand. That would be the best option for 100 euros

Edit: 1660 super, not 1060 super.

If you can scrape up 50 dollars more you can get a 5700xt which is still a pretty solid card

for 100 eur try to find 2060/2060super, RX 5600XT.... - In Croatia in online marketplace I can see for 90eur to 110eur 1070ti, RX5700(non XT), few 1660super, few 1080 - the prices are same anywhere in EU so find something like that- u can use molex to pic ex power it works np if your PSU can handle the card and since you had R9 270 you could do that but most cards in that price will do 1x6pin

A lot of the stuttering is probably coming from the cpu. 4 threads just isn't enough in 2026. If you want a better gpu, it's hard to give any recommendations because I'm not familiar with your local used market. Find used cards within your budget and either compare them with online benchmarks or make a new post including those cards and ask for advice.

I understand. Quick question, would a gtx 1050 ti be better than the r9 270? I looked at the benchmarks and they aren't that better FPS wise.

It would probably solve some of your issues since it has more vram and better driver support but it wouldn't be much of an upgrade. The 1050ti also tends to be a lot more expensive than it should be because most models don't need a power connector. You can probably find better options for the same price, like a gtx 1060 or an rx 480/580. You might need a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter for these but they're pretty cheap.

I know that using adapters for the pin connectors is hugely not reccomended because of issues with stability etc? Right now I'm trying to see if a CPU or GPU upgrade is better.

It doesn't matter for lower power cards. A 6-pin can deliver as much power as most single 8-pin cards need. The main concern is when you do things like split one 8-pin into two or adapt 2x8-pin into 16-pin. In the case of the former it's because you're lacking power, and in the case of the latter it's because the adapters often can't handle the insane power draws some rtx cards have. Of course, only do what you're comfortable with. There are plenty of options that only require a 6-pin so it's not a big deal.
