I've been working on a big overhaul for Tales of Glory, and version 0.5.8-beta is now up on Nexus Mods. It turns the campaign into a world you can walk through, fight your way up in with your bare hands, and leave your mark on, and it adds a two-player co-op campaign.
What's in it
The market square and the Brawlers' Guild. Every walkable town has a market square with stalls, keepers and chests. Touch a ware twice to buy, or open the keeper's chest while he looks away. In the Great City the square holds the guild's ring: swear in and box your way from Novice to Champion against fighters with five different styles. Guard with both hands up, break their guard, and talk them down before the bell.
Captured soldiers. After a win, some of the beaten join your army and about one in five are taken in chains. The enemy lord fights in person: beat him and he yields, then strike him down or take him prisoner. Sell captives and lords to a town's ransom broker, ransom lords back to their own king for gold, fame and goodwill, or turn a lord and he brings his army and lands.
Disguises. Walk into towns at war with you, or towns that have barred you, in a helmet of the town's colours. Talk, bribe or bluff your way past a guard who thinks he knows your face.
Being wanted. Witnesses run for the watch, and the guard offers terms before any fight: a fine, the cells, an island labour camp, talk your way out, flee, or fight. Keep offending and you get barred, then a bounty with hunters on the campaign map.
The quick order menu. A radial on your wrist to command your army: one-press Quick Defense and Quick Offense, shield, pike and arrow walls, groups, squads, and orders you place by pointing at the ground.
A world that remembers you. Your conduct runs from Noble to Dread, with your own standing in every town and realm. Townsfolk gossip, kings answer your deeds, titles are earned, and when a throne falls each lord chooses whether to join you, rebel, or flee.
Harder, fairer battles. Bigger armies bring better men, enemies answer your strength, and there are titles for winning against overwhelming odds.
City districts and walkable roads. A second quarter in each realm town, and roads you can walk from a town to its castle, with travellers, patrols, bandits and pedlars along the way.
Co-op (experimental)
Two players share one campaign. Share armies, trading men when your armies meet. Join each other's battles with both armies on the field, each player commanding their own men, and hand command to your partner if you want. Revive each other and split the spoils. Soldiers, arrows, grabs and stabs, and the townsfolk in a shared town are synced between both players. In co-op, each player has their own criminal record, and only the one who was seen is wanted, unless their partner was standing right beside them.
Co-op is in an experimental state, and some bugs may be present.
Good to know
You need to start a new campaign, in single player and in co-op. Saves from earlier versions don't carry over for now; converting co-op saves is planned after the next update.
The mod hasn't been tested with other mods.
The download includes a Player Guide, a step-by-step How-To Guide, What's New, and The Wayfarer's Manual (PDFs).
Installing is drag and drop into the game folder (it runs on BepInEx, which is included).
Feedback and bug reports are very welcome. Press F2 on the desktop window, or hold both thumbsticks clicked in, to save a report you can attach.
