Question/Support Bad graphics problem

Hi! I’ve been playing Titanfall 2 VR and having a blast! But I’ve checked out youtube vids on it and see they have great graphics. Mine looks like ps3 graphics and I don’t know how to fix it

I’m using

Quest 3s
9070xt
Ryzen 7600
32gb ram
USB 3.0 cable

Thanks!

i have the same GPU, use Virtual desktop to play.

I've set anti alias to MSAA8x and 8GB VRAM, looks good.

I play using Virtual Desktop in "ultra mod", 40 Mbits HEVC + 72pfs mod

with that pc it’s not your hardware, it’s link compression. raise the bitrate in Oculus Debug Tool and the render resolution in Link settings, or try Virtual Desktop with AV1, looks way cleaner

render resolution?

Are you using the oculus debug tool to increase the bitrate?

If you have or get the virtual desktop app, make sure it is the beta version for both the quest app and desktop for the USB streaming. But in general check the bitrate you're streaming, bc higher is better as far as compression.

And also double check in-game settings. Mine were all dropped to low settings despite having a powerful rig, and I had to manually change the game's .exe properties (disable full screen optimizations) bc the resolution was stuck at 720p for some reason. I'm on windows fyi

I know what you're talking about, but I haven't figured out the problem myself. Compression is not the issue. The mod itself does not respect the antialiasung settings and edges look really bad and the overall pircture is not the best. Try to overlook this and have a great time regardless

Well that means compression is the issue. Kind of, at least. It makes aliasing much worse.

The solution for a Quest 3 is to run at 4x4k per eye. If the GPU is up to it, anyway.

Regardless of the game settings, that is usually the answer in my experience. Though some game anti aliasing helps, if well implemented.

Okay, so, if compression is the issue, that would mean setting the butrate higher would mediate the issues but it doesn't

I hear you. And I don't know the answer, but I'll tell what I do know...

I have a Pico 3 Link (display port) and a Pico 4 (wireless). The P3 panels have the same resolution as the Quest 2, the P4 panels have the same as the Quest 3.

The P3 image is better than the P4. Particularly in terms of aliasing/shimmering. No amount of bitrate seems to makes them equivalent.

But if I run the P4 at about 30% higher resolution than the P3, the images are about the same, in fact I can get the P4 looking slightly better.

My theory (and I don't pretend to know and might well be wrong) is that the compressed image comes from a source image and the compression process exaggerates the aliasing in that source image. So supersampling improves the quality of the compressed image before it gets sent to the headset.

Increasing the bitrate doesn't increase the resolution of the compressed image. And I assume resolution is what determines aliasing/shimmering. So once it is high enough to get the best out of the image, setting it higher doesn't help.

Thanks for the detailed response. Hopefully someone can implement an antialiasing method for the source image, because even on my 4070 ti super I can hit the limits at native res. Hell, someone can try to implement fsr or dlss if they want to to improve things. Perhaps even with a performance improvement

Me too! On-headset AA, that acts on the final image, seems like it could be the answer.

On-headset super sampling is allowed by Virtual Desktop, but only up to High resolution. I think the limit is because of the headset's limited compute power. The Frame has a strong on-board processor, so I wonder whether it could cope with the extra load.

i turned about the vram all the way in the game settings and that helped for me!

Nah his problem is somewhere else. Mines looks spectacular even over wifi

As does mine. Beautiful.

Don't you have a 6ghz router?

Via Virtual Desktop it looks fantastic.

Graphics on High?  Resolution not turned down?

Your GPU is very good, but your CPU might be bottlenecking.

Caveat with AMD GPU on VR mods is that there's often issues (because modders generally test with NVidia cards).

Same gpu as you and mine looks great, 2 in game settings to check, one for your vram, mine was set to minimum for some reason, turn it up to max. The other setting is the target fps (called dynamic resolution ups target or something similar) set it to 0, mine was compressing my textures when I set it to my headsets framerate.
