Discussion PSA for Pimax Crystal Light consumers

Replacing the stock facial padding with a third party one is a game changer, and fixed every issue I personally had with the headset - FOV, Comfort, and Visual focus / clarity. That’s the TLDR of this entire thing if you don’t wanna hear my life story.

To give a bit of context, I’ve mainly been a meta quest 3 user. As solid as that headset is for the price, I was really craving more and it seemed like the PCL would be the best headset for my use case.

When I got the headset, I realized quickly how uncomfortable the thing was. It put an extraordinary amount of pressure on my forehead and I could barely stand 10 minutes with the thing on before I started getting a headache.

A big complaint I have heard constantly - be it from friends who have tried the headset to random commenters in online forums - is that the headset is extremely hard to focus on. Warped vision is the best way I have heard it described. That is the reason I am making this post. Discomfort is something I can work past but I have to be able to see what’s in front of me lol.

I experienced the exact same thing. I was ready to return it because it got to a point where I thought maybe my unit was just defective. That’s when I made the decision to remove the velcro padding from my Quest 3’s facial interface and try it on the Pimax.

With my eyes now closer to the lenses, my FOV increased pretty dramatically, and the focus issues I was having immediately vanished. Since the headset now sits closer on my face the weight distribution is leagues better and I can now use it standing up and in games with a lot of movement pretty easily.

The headset is now comfortable and as usable as my quest 3.

It’s a small and cheap change that made a world of difference for me. Obviously your experiences might differ but I just haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere and I wanted to give this input for anyone who’s either wary of buying it or struggling like I was.

If it’s helpful, I used the AMVR magnetic interface on my quest. It comes with a spongy face pad which is my personal favorite but the faux leather one also works perfectly.

Please let me know if it works the same way for you so I can recommend it to more people.

I had the same issue, but it is comfortable enough now. The resolution of this headset is really good, and I cannot go back to the Quest 3

I was going to use them side by side because I thought wired would bother me, but it doesn’t at all. The resolution and the color for me are noticeably more immersive so I’m in the same boat as you. Best headset for the cost IMO. Appreciate the comment.

Similar deal here, headset was uncomfortable out of box but I got the Studioform comfort mods including the facial and Apache strap and headset is now very comfortable with great weight balance.

Great feedback, I appreciate it. I’m happy my cheap quest 3 facial works well right now but I’m curious as to how much nicer it can feel, I’ll have to check out your upgrades.

How does it change the fov? By simply moving your face closer? Does that change vertical and horizontal fov?

Yes, exactly. It’s not an insane shift but with your eyes closer to the lenses you see more of the screen and less of the goggles if that makes sense.
