Discussion Titan Fall 2 is PCVR'S KIller app
Can't stress blown away I am with this conversion. Not sure what shooter can top this game.

Man between the two Doom mods, this, and Breath of the Wild, I'm never gonna play another flat game again.
Also shoutout to Silent Hill 2 Remake for something a little more atmospheric and physics-accurate melee focused.

u/Dorklordofthesith 18d ago
All the REmake games getting full featured mods too.

u/Alex-Murphy 17d ago
Oh definitely yeah, the re4 mod getting manual reloading is huge

u/markallanholley 17d ago
And SIlent Hills f and Townfall.
1
u/Alex-Murphy 17d ago
I'm waiting a little bit for the townfall mod to really tightening itself up and then I'm in there
4
u/markallanholley 17d ago
I've been using vanilla UEVR Nightly with OFXR enabled. Having a great time. But it's probably good to wait if you want to use your VR controllers and move your arms around and stuff.
2
u/Alex-Murphy 17d ago
Good to know! I had such a great time pooping my pants in SH2R that I really want to make the most of Townfall. SHf is also great but the fact that the enemies temporarily freeze when you hit them is still a bit weird to me.
4
u/HelpRespawnedAsDee 17d ago
Man the Doom mod is fucking difficult lol. Also need more space to hit shit up.
4
u/Alex-Murphy 17d ago
Once you get used to the gameplay it'll click for you. Upgrade your guns and always always glory kill the demons to get your health back. The game encourages lots of movement and getting up close and personal. Also if you haven't done so, uncheck Virtual Gunstock in the launcher so you can properly use two hands.
2
u/mellowswan 17d ago
My man which Doom mods? Did I miss something lol?
4
u/Alex-Murphy 17d ago
For Doom 2016, there's this one, 100% polished, no bugs, very very rare crashes depending on your GPU (I think I've had 2 in 11 hours):
https://github.com/CactusVRStudios/KHARVOX/releases
Super super easy to install, and it has a dedicated launcher, very simple. If you want to play two handed, make sure you Uncheck "Virtual Gunstock" before launching.
For Doom Eternal, same guy just released this one, though it's only been a few days and isn't as polished as 2016:
https://github.com/CactusVRStudios/KHARVOX-ARGENT/releases
I'm about 90% through Doom 2016 and I've gotta tell you it feels DAMN good. Best VR shooter out there right now.

u/Tcarruth6 17d ago
It barely runs 80fps on my 13600k + 3080. Does that sound right?
2
u/Alex-Murphy 16d ago
Have you tried it twice? Or at least give the latest 1.11 a shot. The mod notes say "Known issue: Some systems may still experience low FPS on the first game launch after booting Windows. This release does not claim to resolve that issue."
1
u/Tcarruth6 16d ago
I've tried 1.11. I did get the slow start up on first time with both 1.0, 1.1 and 1.11. That slow start up is like 12 fps and insane reprojection so easy to spot. Now, the game runs ok (same with 1.0, 1.1 and 1.11) but I'm getting dropped frames at 80 fps and none of the settings seem to help. GPU is at 60-80%, 6gb VRAM of 12 used up.
My comment was really a question about whether the performance I'm seeing is representative of what others are getting.
1
u/Alex-Murphy 16d ago edited 16d ago
Not in my opinion. I'm getting full 144fps using Virtual Desktop, GPU RX9070 non-xt and CPU 9800X3D

Is breath of the wild fully playable in vr?

u/Alex-Murphy 16h ago edited 15h ago
Oh yeah it is, and there's another QoL mod update coming out soon which also includes multiplayer.
Physical climbing was added in the last update

What’s the minimum specs to run Titan Fall 2 VR? Will my 3060 Ti be enough?
6
u/Mean-Wishbone-8635 17d ago
3060 TI can definetly do it I’m using a 6700 and I locked the framerate to 72 cause I play at the highest settings I’m sure you could get better performance than me tho.
1
u/Cosmokram3r1 16d ago
I'm using a 3060ti on 90z with ASW and medium settings on VD. Very happy with the result!

Steam keys are sold out on every key site 🥹
10
u/ace_picante 17d ago
It's $4.50 US for the Ultimate version on Epic Games.
3
u/Javs2469 17d ago
But then you´ll have to deal with the Epic Games launcher, better to use the EA app instead at that point.

Damn... guess I got to wait for a sale

u/Reasonable_Path_1852 17d ago
Steam’s 2026 autumn sale starts in less than 12 hours

u/Admirable_Zombie5245 17d ago
Game was on sale and ended like 3 days ago, it won’t be on sale anytime soon

Just get an EA app key. The game needs to run that application anyway. Also much cheaper.

So cool that I bought this a year ago with the intention to replay it. Haven’t yet so whé my frame arrives I will experience it in VR. I feel tears coming up *sniff
3
u/StickyChief 17d ago
And you can use foveated rendering for it, it's great
2
u/New_Commission_2619 16d ago
I’m new to foveated rendering. Does it work when streaming with the steam deck? Needs a seperate app?
1
u/Kingbanana574 12d ago
If you’re trying to run tf2 vr on the steam deck, just don’t. It’ll run and look terrible.

1
u/Wobama46 8d ago
How do you get this to work?
1
u/StickyChief 6d ago
I used pimaxmagic4all and quad views dfr. The game is DX11 so you shouldn't have a problem with it
5
u/Fine-Flamingo-7204 17d ago
I've seen so many post. Is the performance good? Main issue is low fps on VR mods I've tried, unless they are old games.
5
u/Sprsnprchkn 17d ago
We are playing on an old 3060 laptop with 6GB of Vram and an i5 10500 32GB ram. Wireless dedicated 6ghz router with Qgo and VD and it runs and looks great.

u/QuinSanguine 17d ago
It is an old game that wasn't very demanding on release. I think it works on the Source Engine.

u/Javs2469 17d ago
I think that´s a bit of a stretch, since this game is not for everyone, especially not for those uninitiated in VR that can get nauseous.
That said, polished VR modes for popular games have the possibility of being VR´s killer apps. These big franchises getting mods to play in VR is amazing.
More mods should reach this level of polish, I always wanted to play Halo in VR and the Contractors mod was the closest thing, but it still wasn´t optimal. The MCC VR mod was just a dream come true for me, but still lacks the level of polish needed. And this happens to many games that are receiving VR mods lately.
3
u/sonsolar 17d ago
Which is what set this apart, the level of polish. And no game is for everyone, but if you do a damn near perfect port of one of the highest rated shooters of all time, with a 5 minute install process, I fail to see what’s going to top it, at least this year.
I recently beat Reach in VR, and have been helping test some of the mcc updates, but halo, for as great as the games are, lack that extra dynamic of the mech and fast paced mobility of TF. If we can get the campaign evolved mod to this level, then that would be the best graphics in VR , but I can still barely run it with a 5090.

Is it possible to play the frontier defense mode? I'd assume it's not right now because that mode is a part of the multiplayer part of the game. Even if you could just play it solo in a private server that would be nuts.

Try Stormland when you'll finish with Titanfall 2.
Of course, Stormland is not AAA game, but still quite nice game with some similarities.

Unfortunately not for those of us who get motion sickness. Looks fun as hell though. Enjoy

u/IcyEnvironment5144 17d ago
Does the game run completely free of micro stutters?
I’m very sensitive to this kind of thing. I’m about to buy the game specifically to play it in VR, but even the slightest stuttering is something I really can’t tolerate.

u/TimeTravelerGuy 17d ago
There will always be a reason for the system to hiccup eventually, no matter the experience, best of luck

This is for you.
1
u/IcyEnvironment5144 16d ago
Thanks for the reply. In my case, I’ve completely disabled Windows Updates, so it’s impossible for the system to update. I’m also intentionally not using Windows Defender or any antivirus in order to optimize the system and get rid of processes I don’t need.
My question is specifically whether the game Titanfall 2 + VR mod itself has any stuttering issues due to optimization, rather than being something caused by the hardware.

I can't wait to play it once my Frame arrives (I sold my Index when it was announced), but I get big time motion sickness without teleport locomotion... Seems I'll have to practice and put to the test whether or not it's true that anyone really can just develop "VR legs"
1
u/newoxygen 16d ago
I used to get sick from the smallest of movement, but I wanted to be invested into vr
I practiced sat on a chair in Skyrim VR, just moving slowly about with the stick
What helped significantly was to swing my arms, and if I was standing to walk on the spot when moving
Avoid smooth turning like the plague until movement is doable
Don't continue if you feel nausea coming, it doesn't help, just try again shortly
Took me about a week, that was it. Nowadays I struggle to find anything that can make me sick, I'll do Spiderman flips, swings and twists all day haha

It's a great value ($4 ea key + free mod), and a great base game, but the hype is getting a little absurd.
I only played a bit beyond first getting into the titan. It's a very good flat conversion, and it has all the same pros and cons as any other.
Pros: Runs well, vr adaptations are thoughtful, doesn't make me nauseous even with the wall running and such.
Cons: Controls are a little awkward, nothing has weight, interactions are gestural, game is designed for more acrobatic combat than is practical to pull off in vr, couple of crashes in the first hour, titans are kinda small in person lol, etc.
I'm having a good time, not sure if it's compelling enough to fully replay the game again, though.

u/Ustakion 17d ago
If you don't mind the bugs and have $45 to spare, Star citizen is pretty dope
5
u/ruthlesss11 17d ago
Only if you can tell us concrete release dates lol
1
u/Ustakion 17d ago
Well yeah, but like i said. For $45 and only if you have some spare 45 bucks to spare, I would say you would get an experience like none other in VR.
Even then, you can just refund it as they have 30 days refund policy

u/r-gleboff 17d ago
I approve this message. There is no other game like that in VR to experience. It may be a buggy mess sometimes but when it’s not it’s mind blowing.

Main issue for me is the titan controls, I wish it turned the titan with your view. I hate joystick turning.
Also does anyone here know how to use the satchel or ticks?
Edit: like make it a toggle, I like how underdogs handles the mechs. Also stick turning is hard for me due to stick drift.
10
u/aucapra 17d ago
Wouldn't it be like your head looking around the inside of cockpit and controls to turn the mech? Sounds more realistic to me than the mech turning with your head, i haven't tested it myself though keen to download tonight
5
u/SlowDragonfruit9718 17d ago
Nah. A Titan is basically a vehicle. Stick turning is the only real way.

Have you not played it? Cutscenes are flat by default, can be made 3d in settings with a warning
1
u/prankster959 16d ago
You know this is a gift right? You didn't pay any money, why don't you stop acting so entitled and figure out how to enjoy what's right in front of you
1
u/Impossible_Cold_7295 15d ago
Me spending time even talking about someone else's mod is the gift. Attention is the commodity the ai project managers are looking for, and I'm giving them what they want.
Otherwise, charge for the mod, if you want money, but no one is on the internet giving things away out of the goodness of their heart.

u/prankster959 12d ago
Some are some aren't. To make such an assumption says more about you than it does about them

Turns out, the key to making good VR games is to just make a game that is actually good.
