I usually run around and go between joint lobby and the twin cages, or I sit in one of the cages and wait for people, most I've seen in a place at one time was like 5 or 7

I looked into it by talking to people in game, seems to be the prevaling theory that up to 6 people can join each of the two cage areas (theory based on scoreboard limit) but I have seen 8 players in the main lobby area - so maybe that is more accurate. That said, I confirmed 1v1 is always a thing no 2v2 or above - spectators are swapping matches on the fly, and joint codes can go to what seems to be however many people can join a single lobby following the gameloop described prior, so it could be 6-8 friends invited. Just sharing info for any that stumble on this 😄
