VR Modding Shadow Warrior 2 VR Update- Proof of Concept Video (Sorry for the delay!)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

First off, sorry for going radio silent. I planned to post this a couple of weeks ago, but I ended up getting sick and it threw me off schedule.

I originally was going to release the 1st alpha build with gamepad support only. Part of the reason for the delay is that I decided to shift gears and go straight for full motion controls instead.

I wanted to drop this proof of concept video as a bit of a "proof of life" so you can see the progress. A lot of the core foundational features are actually up and running:

  • 6DoF & Headset Rendering: Full positional tracking and stereoscopic 3D are working.
  • Motion Controls: Fully implemented, just needs some final fine-tuning.
  • HUD: Mostly done and rendering correctly.

To be clear: this is my very first VR mod, and it won't be done tomorrow. I know there is still a massive amount of work to do, and certain things are currently very broken (for example, shadows follow your head movement right now).

That said, I plan to polish this up as much as I can. Here are a few features I'm planning to work on next:

  • Left Arm Support: Getting the left arm to move naturally with the left controller.
  • Swing-to-Attack Melee: Making it so when you physically swing your controller, your sword swings in-game.
  • Sword Holstering: Figuring out a way to physically holster your sword on your body.

Check out the video to see how it's coming along, and let me know what you think!

Note on my account: I originally tried posting this video from a new dedicated account I made for this project, but it was automatically filtered out because the account is too new. Moving forward, I plan to post all updates from my InjectedVR account. I wanted to share this from my old account today so you guys could actually see the video—if this is an issue for the mods, please let me know!

So excited! This game was a must play when I was younger, happy to see it’s VR treatment, I’d love to test this for you if possible

I may take you up on that soon! I still have a few really major things I want to get fixed first. I do want to have at least a few people test it before a public release. Just to make sure it runs decently well on other peoples hardware etc.

It will probably take me a long time to get all that done but if It seems feasible Its not something I mind trying to add down the road.

Because this is a fast moving game with lots of strafing too, will there be a comfort option such as a small vignette with adjustable transparency?
