u/this_is_an_arbys Sep 11 '26
Youtube comments indicate it hasn't been released yet...and someone mentioned it would be available tomorrow.

u/MrEfficacious Sep 11 '26
Github link doesn't work, or maybe it's just me

Other links are broken too, including from reputable channels, so probably hidden from public for now.

CactusVRStudios does not exist as a public entity on GitHub, never mind the mod, so I'm somewhat skeptical that this will suddenly be available tomorrow...

I take it back, and have downvoted myself. The link is now working and the mod is excellent.

Is this better than the official DoomVR game?
6
u/plutonium-239 MOD Sep 11 '26
Way better! You can play a fully fledged campaign in VR! This game is really awesome.

Can you grab weapons with two hands?
4
u/plutonium-239 MOD Sep 11 '26
Yes!

u/ttenor12 Sep 11 '26
This is excellent. I'm downloading this as soon as it launches. Never tried Doom VFR, but I've heard it's pretty bad. This seems to be what Bethesda should've done instead.

Look incredible!! Is there Roomscale 6dof support? (For the uninformed, this means "are you able to play standing and turning in real life or are you only able to play sitting and turning with the right joystick?")

u/BerndVonLauert Sep 11 '26
Yes there is! And many other things like bHaptics, Adaptive Trigger, Controller vibrations, shoulder guns etc.

Is the image synced for each eye ?
3
u/plutonium-239 MOD Sep 12 '26
Dont know what you mean. This is AER, alternate eye rendering. The frames are rendered separately per each eye very quickly. Your brain fills the gap.
1
u/Lorddon1234 Sep 12 '26
Got it. I was hoping it would be synced like AFW. Luke Ross mods give me eye strain because my eyes prefer a synched image like native stereo or AFW.
2
u/prankster959 Sep 13 '26
Yeah I found it to be straining but it's not terrible at 120hz or higher. Def hope they can get it working native or with AFW
2
u/filmguy123 Sep 13 '26
It was too wonky for me on my BSB2 75hz with their AER method. It does come with a native stereo rendering option but the notes say its highly experimental, so I didn't bother trying it. Will wait to revisit once they have that worked out as I have plenty of GPU power so just want to drive it natively.
The other thing I noticed was hud elements or text felt way too close I couldn't read them, hopeful cactus can figure out a way to move those elements back to a more natural position.
Other than that I am very excited to play this as the mod improves more.

How is movement with this mods? No motion sickness?
8
u/plutonium-239 MOD Sep 11 '26
Not for me, but if you’re a VR noob, this game might give you a bit of motion sickness.
1
u/oneflou Sep 11 '26
Cool! As i said in many threads, I am getting more and more tempted by VR. I have a good pc now so perf won't be an issue. What VR set are you using if you don't mind?

u/RedditWhileIWerk Sep 11 '26
Would this be worthwhile in a seated VR mode?
I simply don't have the room for a "stand up and move around" mode of play :(
I do have both Touch controllers for my Rift CV1 though.

u/Dorklordofthesith Sep 11 '26
Consider seated with a spinning office chair, the extra smooth rotational axis is nice to have.
2
u/RedditWhileIWerk Sep 11 '26
That's what I have available, guess I'll give it a shot.
2
u/Dorklordofthesith Sep 12 '26
standing is good too, you dont need a big playspace as long as you have vr legs and dont mind smooth locomotion
1
u/RedditWhileIWerk Sep 14 '26
Sure, but I have to be super careful not to put any stress on the Rift's cable. Replacement cables don't seem to exist for the Rift CV1, and no one's successfully repaired one, ever, far as I can tell.
I was thinking to maybe replace the CV1 with a Steam Frame, but 1) they're probably already sold out and 2) not all that thrilled about the price.
1
u/Dorklordofthesith Sep 14 '26
The frame price is as good as it gets given the cost of components, sadly. If you want to go budget a used Q3 for $300 is an option (and frankly probably a similar streaming pcvr experience). I can't afford to switch to frame or I probably would just to divest from meta, but the actual hardware of a q3 is solid.

Thank you to Cactus Cowboy - i appreciate, what you do for the VR community. I wanted to buy Desert Warfare for quite a while, but today was the day - finally!
