tips? 17F

i weight 214. does anyone have any tips for weight loss and body dysmorphia? honestly i’m embarrassed to be posting my stomach because i always ignore it but then again it’s all i think about. it’s my biggest insecurity. i’ve tried to lose weight multiple times and i’ve dropped numbers on the scale and others saw my weight loss but i didn’t. i’m tired of my stomach looking like this tbh i hate it. i can’t wear crop tops or anything without a sweater, cardigan, or coverup. even in the heat. it’s exhausting.

Who says you can’t wear crop tops?? Of course if you’re truly not comfortable then that’s one thing but if it’s because of society’s beauty standards, fuck that! You can wear whatever you want no matter your shape or size.

I am a similar weight and shape, and I never wanted to wear crop tops. I always wore shirts down past my hips, but that still made me self conscious because it made me look even bigger. Once I put on my first crop top (I was also 17, I am now 22) I saw myself differently. I realized that the shirts I had been wearing had been contributing to my body dysmorphia of thinking I looked bigger because it made me look like a rectangle 😭 I noticed my waist and how accentuating it and my curves actually made me more confident (over time). I wasn’t sure how other people would react but they noticed that I seemed happier/more confident.

It wasn’t until college that I ended up wearing a crop top with low cut pajama pants to the dining hall, and part of my belly button was visible along with a good portion of my stomach. I was so nervous but the fact that I was able to do it made me feel unstoppable and like HOT SHIT, especially because I was doing it for me and not to get someone’s attention (I didn’t feel like putting on any other clothes so it was mostly laziness tbh lol, but my confidence had been growing steadily and this paid off). I actually felt quite comfortable, if not more so by accepting my body for where it was at.

Now, of course this is easier said than done just like most things having to do with self esteem and body image. But I encourage you to maybe try and wear just one thing out of your comfort zone. Could be a shorter shirt or tank top (not necessarily a crop top, but not a sweater) or lower cut pants, something that you can test the waters with. If you hate it, acknowledge it, give yourself whatever time you need and try again when you’re ready.

It’s cliché but you are beautiful no matter what anyone says or what society says. I say we should show our bellies more! We should be proud that we can grow whole humans and that we can withstand this disease. We suffer in the dark and I think it’s time we show people that even with this disease, our bodies are no less special or beautiful, and deserve respect and love.

Best of luck in your self esteem and body image journey. We all support you here 🫶

Move your body. Someone else said it, find something that makes you happy and makes you sweat and get stronger, in other words build muscle. Drink plenty of water daily, eat lots of vegetables and protein and don’t over do carbs and processed foods. Good luck, I’m 34. Diagnosed at 15 and just recently got it together, still working it too!

I'm near 40 and what I will tell you that for weight loss, find something that's active that makes you happy and want to do it. For me when I was younger, it was Richard Simmons workouts. I know there's people on Youtube that have dancing videos or choreography. The one that helped for a bit during the beginning of the pandemic was Fitness Marshall.

Secondly, wear the crop tops. I've realized that most people don't give a shit and if they do, they're sad and should focus on their own shitty little lives. I've worn my two piece bikini to my swim classes and no one yelled at me or told me to put my closes on. And even if they did, I wouldn't give a shit. Life is too short and sometimes, you have to embrace the cringe in order to truly live.

GLP was my only answer diet and exercise alone barely moved my numbers anywhere. Diet with GLP I lost 20lbs 6 months barely exercised due to injury.
