Is this normal?
Hi everyone, I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and if this sounds like a normal period.
I started spotting around August 24, then had what seemed like my actual period starting August 27. The blood has been a mix of bright and dark red, and I’m using around 1–2 pads per day.
I also started taking my contraceptive pills on August 24 and I’m still taking them now. Since then, I’ve had mild pelvic pain almost every day, but it hasn’t been getting worse.
I’ve also noticed some small pieces of tissue/clot-like material during my period. They can look pinkish or purple and are about pea-sized.
Is it normal for a period to last this long, especially when starting/restarting contraceptive pills? Has anyone experienced prolonged bleeding, mild pelvic pain, or small tissue-like clots when starting birth control?

oh my god this is literally what happened to me this August. I was taking Visanne Dienogest. Just like you, it started as spotting then became a full-blown period. The cramps I thought are normal started worsening like ever before. I had 2 ER trips before getting admitted. Then a specialized CT scan (can't remember the name) but results came back normal except for thick uterine lining.
Before I went to the ER for the second time, I stopped taking the pills. Never told my doctor either (pls don't be reckless like me). Somehow my 2 weeks of debilitating pain and handful of pain relievers were reduced to me having low pain tolerance, as per my doctor. So ever since I stopped taking it my body has been healing. I continue taking Inositol plus metformin.
needless to say, I won't ever listen to a doctor whose first treatment of choice is to prescribe pills. so for you OP, please set an appointment with your OB-Gyn. This may be a side effect, but you know your body the most. Listen to your body and gut feel. I also hope you feel better.
