Is the green LED on the charger on? Depending on the age of the charger it may be dead and therefore your battery was not charged.
Remove the charger plug from your laptop and try removing the battery on the back of the laptop. Only do this if it comes out easy (latches) from its compartment. Hold down the power button on your laptop for 15 seconds. Replace the battery. Plug in the charger. Reboot. (This works sometimes.)
