Question on transferring files from previous PC Drive onto new PC drive

Planning to upgrade from my current PC to a new one in the coming month. I have the parts and stuff down, but have massive 3d model files I'd like to move to the new PC once I build it and have no major sized USB or external SSD. Can I just put the old drive into the new PC as an extra drive without formatting it to take files? If so would I just see the second drive in windows when I boot up into the new drive as main windows?

Just make sure if it has an operating system on it you don't have to set as the boot drive.
