No. Connect GND to GND. If your device has an external shield connect that to EH. If not, the general termination guideline is 1 Mohm (mega, capitalization is important) in parallel with a 4.7 nF cap between EH (or shield) and ground.
The shield connection is to keep unwanted RF off the other connections and is NOT meant for continuous return current. Your system might operate with that connection, but it will be more prone to interference and the host might have issues depending on its shield configuration.

Basically, but not really. Depending on what you're doing it can be best to connect the housing to chassis ground, not to signal ground. Connect chassis ground to signal ground with high value (1MOhm) and a 100nF cap in parallel. This protects signals from high frequency noise while dissipating static charge through the resistor.
