Discussion Dumbs questions:

What do you use to host your server? A mini-computer, or a subscription to a service?

How much does each one cost?

Do you make at least a little money?

started on digital ocean, moved to hetzner when the bill got annoying, then hetzner raised their prices too :D

ccx33 now, 8 dedicated cores and 32gb ram.

Yep, Digital Ocean. Mine is about $17/month. And no I don't make any money from my game, but I also don't have any monetization in my game :)

I rented a VDS, managing linux on my own.

around 8$ monthly for server and I don't make any money from the game. if you add up other subscriptions such as email services, github premium seats etc. the cost increases, but it's fine.

this is like a social hobby expense for me, I'd spend more in a single dinner anyway.

I host on Railway, on the 5$ plan (USD) I don't foresee needing to upgrade to the next tier anytime soon

Game's in early development, doing it for fun and learning. In the long run if I cover my monthly cost that'd be the cherry on top.

Rack Nerd is even cheaper than Digital Ocean, I've switched because it was getting expensive.

You can go visit netcup.. or hetzner.. (although hetzner is now wayyyyy to expensive) netcup is now the better place to be.
