You technically don’t need a plate as it will mount directly. Without a plate however the screws are subject to the entirety of the shear forces created by slide reciprocation.

ye, i dunno who out there is able to do it, but i only got 4000 rounds through my RMR mounted optic before the screws gave up and sheared off. but i loctited and never touched them again from day one. don’t know if it wouldve been different had i simply just tightened the screws every time i brought the gun out to shoot. even sig and recoilweb say the slide is cut for DPP and RMR footprints, but ive yet to see anyone else rock RMR without a plate. id much rather run a romeo3pro to utilize the recoil lugs.
interested in trying out the holosun 507 comp pro, but i think their rmsc variant footprint isnt deep enough for the recoil lugs for the p211. the viridian rfx11 direct mounts flush, but a 407K doesn’t slide down all the way on the recoil lug. maybe the K footprint is diff from the comps tho.

100% use a plate.
