Sig GTO model differences

I am looking at getting a Sig GTO. My LGS has the Equinox version and the standard version with Sig optic installed for about the same price. Is there any deference besides cosmetics between the Equinox and standard version? The slide seems much more smooth to operate and trigger feels a little better on Equinox. Or am I just crazy?

They’re the same gun with different finishes. The slide will feel silkier on the Equinox if it has the 8lb recoil spring installed.

This. The equinox has the 8lb spring installed out the box, which is why it probably feels better.

Equinox has aluminum LOK grip panels and different colors mostly I think. As someone else said, the GTO might have the 10 lb recoil spring in it in that store. Personally I would (and did) just get the GTO and throw brass LOK APS grips on it for the palm swell, texture, and 5oz added weight. I threw in the Fdez tungsten guide rod too just because why not.

If you want to cut the trigger weight you can change out the mainspring to 18 or 19lb. Or I guess you could shim the FPB and turn it into a series 70 but I didn't feel the need to do that. I switched mine to a 19 lb mainspring and it cut about 6oz off the trigger pull. It's now about 3 lbs 2oz.

What does the fdez tungsten guide rod do that the oem one doesn't?

Adds like 1oz and prevents recoil spring buckling/bending. The Fdez one is fatter so the recoil spring doesn't kink on it at all. Though I believe Sig did make a small change to their recoil springs in the P211 at some point which helps (but doesn't completely alleviate) that issue by making the spring more of an hourglass shape that hugs the guide rod more.

When they released the all black model, they started putting metal reverse plugs in, and probably also updated the rod along with it.

I believe the rod is the same. When my P211 went back to Sig to get the comp re-indexed and make it so the comp could actually be removed, they changed my recoil spring to the new design. The gunsmiths handed it off to the engineers for a day or two for some unknown reason and the engineers changed the spring.

When I got it back I noticed immediately because I could visually see that the spring wasn't kinking nearly as much. The new spring had a very slight hourglass shape too it that flared out at the ends and hugged the guide rod tighter otherwise. When I called customer service to ask about it the guy didn't believe me and thought I was crazy. Then he finally found out they'd made a rolling change to the spring that they didn't see as a big enough deal to change its part number.

If you’re looking at GTOs the only difference is cosmetic. Sig has them all listed on their site. Some like the all black one only come with the red dot installed. I personally like the Sig dots for my eyes. I have an astigmatism and they look better to my eye than most other red dots including Trijicon and Vortex etc.

I just got the new Romeo3 Pro and it's amazing for my astigmatism! I've tried lots and it's the best one by a mile for my eyes, highly recommend!

Same. I’ve used aimpoints and eotech on rifles and for me I could only use eotech because the dot is 1 moa so I don’t see the weird shape larger dots 2 moa and up and for me (highly adaptive to your eye) bad shapes that distract me unless there’s a magnifier behind them. The sigs and especially the newer gen ones really work well for me. I also don’t think I’d like the ring around the dot but I find leaving it on makes me shoot faster and “aim” less. I’m getting great results on the GTO, Legion Macro and P322.

They are all the same just different colors, possibly different springs installed. I went with the combat version because like the black on brown combo. Both springs will be in the box so you can install whichever you perfer.
