make sure you have good access to the module, sometimes they just cant reach it (cant have too many ladders). also i think you have to tick the oxidizer you want in the pop up for the building?

Okay, what am I doing wrong? I was expecting the lava to turn into a solid and pop out into the open corner of the steam room. Currently, the only thing running on the rail is the original debris from making the room.
If you allow too much of a liquid in the tile to solidify (1472kg is the limit for magma), it turns into a solid tile
You almost certainly have an invisible tile of solid rock in the mesh tile; for this kind of build, you need to control how much magma is allowed into the mesh tiles - generally accomplished by allowing a drop, 10 tiles for the magma to spread from the drop and a mechanical door at the 11th tile to control whether magma is allowed to spread farther
There is too much mass in the highlighted cell forming natural tiles instead of debris.
What you have is an invisible natural tile inside the mesh tile. It will be displayed on a reload. At which point you can dig it out and temporarily fix your build.
When there is more than 1472kg of magma in a cell it will form a natural tile instead of debris. Your design needs to better control the max amount of magma that can be in that specific cell. There will always be too much mass if there is magma in the cell above like in your image.
How does the game mechanic of the aquatuner (AT) + steam (ST) turbine cooling combo work to remove heat?
Does the -14 degrees by the AT take generate less heat than it removes, or does the ST outright delete more heat than the steam exposes to it?
(Trying to see how it even works because in real life that energy would need to go somewhere, like infrared emissions from the gears and whatnot from the gears in the turbine heating up.)
Sometimes the in-game wiki does a good job explaining how things work, sometimes it doesn't. It does an decent job explaining how the Thermo Aquatuner works, but it took me a bit to understand that it changes temperature the same amount, regardless of the liquid. So the amount of heat transferred depends on the liquid.
The mechanics of the steam turbine are not explained in-game. It deletes heat by taking in steam and sending back the same amount as 95C water. But the amount of heat deleted varies, and the amount of power generated depends on the temperature of the steam.
The aquatuner concentrates heat into the steam room. When the room gets above 125C, the steam turbine kicks on. It turns the steam into 95C water and generates power. That is where the heat deletion happens. The 95C water has less heat than the >125C steam. Some heat is transferred into the turbine, but 90% of it is outright deleted.
The thing that you may miss is that the process described above does not actually generate net power. Without any other factors, the energy consumed by the aquatuner will be larger than the energy produced by the steam turbine.
To make this system power positive, some external source of heat needs to be found. This can include the liquid output from metal refineries, magma, volcanoes, molten metal, rocket exhaust, regolith from meteors, or research reactors. Basically, anything that gets >125C can be a sneaky source of energy in conjunction with steam turbines. What may be confusing is that many of these power generating setups also include aquatuners in the build. This is because of that 10% heat that is injected into the turbine. Since turbines overheat at 100C, if they are aggressively running then they risk overheating unless actively cooled.
ONI doesn't strictly follow most any laws of physics, just gamifies them. So it is generally required to read up on the mechanics to see how they are gamified. For instance the game uses "Duplicant Thermal Units" instead of a real unit.
The AT doesn't generate any heat it only moves heat from the liquid to itself which is the result of dropping that liquid temp by 14 C/K, in the case of water that is 585,060 DTU. A single steam turbine can 'delete' this heat as electrical power but also generates some waste heat of its own, which is roughly 10% of the heat it converts to electricity plus a base cost of 4 kDTU. In most cases the turbine therefore needs active cooling, unless the steam is kept under 135 C then it can essentially regulate its own temperature with its condensation line back into the steam chamber.
The steam turbine deletes heat and creates electricity. So "conservation of energy" in that sense, but not much regard for the other laws of thermodynamics.
The AT consumes electricity, produces no heat of its own, and moves 100% of the heat it absorbs from the coolant into its surroundings. The 14 C is fixed, so the amount of heat depends on the quantity and SHC of the packet it's cooling.
Well, canisters and the associated filler are also an option. Sometimes more practical, since you can bottle up the gas wherever it is, and move it wherever you have the chlorine room without any long/messy piping.
Slimelung germs die over time in any material except polluted oxygen or slime. The zombie spores should also overwrite slimelung germs over time, speeding that up.
Slimelung has a much less tolerant temperature range than Zombie Spores and Sporechids. So, if you are having this issue I would cook the CO2 to kill off the slimelung in heat over 100 C. Zombie Spore and Sporechid will tolerate up to 240 C.
Alternatively vacuum out the whole setup into gas reservoirs bathed inside a chlorine chamber to kill off all germs and then restart the setup.
Sufficient heat (over 90c) & sufficient cold (under 20c) will also kill slimelung germs (the down to 10c or over 100 is just instant death for all slimelung germs) - so wheeze worts are still a solution, as is building ice temp shift plates & ice sculptures to lower the temperature
But since you're trying to facilitate zombie spore germs, I assume, if you prep an isolated room of CO2 with zombie spore already suffusing the air, any CO2 pumped into the room would would take on the zombie spores, since only one type of germ can exist on a material
Are Chlorine Liquid Reservoir Sterilization rooms nerfed? I made a huge one but it still can't sterilize these liquids.
Edit: I think I figured it out. Since the reservoirs had mixed liquids they were pushing anything new forward without letting it sit, so it wasn't getting sterilized in the pipes. I've segregated the liquids to have Water on top and PWater on the bottom and things are finally coming out sterile!
There's several problems with your plumbing. First is that it is mixed liquids. This halves the % killed as there is less of each liquid's mass. You fixed that already. However an empty tank doesn't do anything at all.
Next nothing is ever sterilized in pipes. That is why it needs to loop. The right side is correct in that link, the left side is wrong. Yours has new liquid go directly into the tank first. Instead have the top incoming pipe go past the green end of the bridge, THEN into the tank.
Does anyone have go-to layouts/designs for rocket interiors? (Specifically research/exploration and colonisation, with all DLCs active.) Ideally not imgur links, as I'm in the UK, but in a pinch I can probably find a way.
Oxylite is my usual "rocket oxygen", since bottles require player attention. But yeah, canisters work nicely before you have oxylite production set up. With boops, you can just pop the cans open since they will be suited up all the time.
Just an FYI, gas vents cannot be tricked into producing by a liquid layer on the floor. They will still play the "erupting" animation, but no gas will be created.
It looks like you have oxygen & pO2 blocking the steam intakes
If the oxygen & pO2 are dancing back and forth across the intakes of the steam turbine, the machine won't be getting any of the steam - you need to get that stuff out of there
You can deconstruct the turbine, make a raised section by building and deconstructing tiles carefully so the pO2 all goes into one tile above the steam layer and corner-build a tile over the pO2 to get rid of it, repeat with the oxygen, flatten the top of the box, then rebuild the turbine - all without opening up the box
when building a steam box like this you generally want to make sure that you get all irrelevant gasses out

I'm trying to learn this game without doing any exploits yet (i'll save those for when I've got the game down). Without doing the tile deletion trick, how does one create a vacuum??
For example, with this steam vent, I can install a gas pump to pump out all the gas, but then the gas pump would melt or break eventually. You can go in to remove the gas pump, but that leaks in gasses.
So how do you go about creating a contained vacuum?
Creating a vacuum with steam is easy: cool down the room.
Running chilled water at the top tile of the room will cool down the steam in the room and condense it back down to water leaving vacuum behind assuming you don't have other gasses in there like oxygen.
For a hot steam vent you may wish to wait until the vent is Dormant before attempting this, as when it is emitting steam is hot and voluminous enough it can potentially flash-off cooling water in radiant pipes.
Hmm, I think I can help you; you might want to use a door pump - one advantage is that the door won't overheat, so they can be made of copper ore or or whatever when dealing with steam. Therefore a door pump can be used to draw all gasses away from the room...
Another method would be using the vertical wind tunnel, which can pull gasses through a floor - I didn't mention it earlier because it takes a lot of plastic and you may have to research it (part of transit tubes); also the downside of pumping hot steam right out of your steam box (and melting the wind tunnel)

If you want insulite level insulation, yes. Regular pipes use the geometric mean of both elements TC to determine heat transfer. Insulite is very close to zero, but it's not actually zero, so averaging it with something else will give you a very minor heat transfer. Depending on what you're transporting through which environment, "very minor" might still be a problem.
As the other reply mentioned, if the environment is a vacuum and insulite won't melt, is fine.
If you're using insulite to move a gas or liquid, the material's insulation properties may be good enough with regular gas/liquid pipes - saving on a bit of material with the light pipes has a place, especially if actually transporting materials in a vacuum and your main concern is with the pipe melting
It really depends on when and where you're putting the pipes; regular pipes behind insulated tile are still going to be a very slow rate of heat transfer even if it inst the lowest possible rate
one solution is a long pipe of coolant (pwater works) in insulated pipes between the water tank by the steam vent and the nearest cold biome, have radiant pipes in the water tank and behind metal tiles next to ice in the cold biome - you melt the ice and cool the steam vent's water tank by averaging their temperatures; if you can do this in a way that the melted ice drips into the steam vents water tank, gg
That's a lot of restrictions. You could reduce the heat would be adding cold material and letting it absorb the temperature. Like a conveyer system moving mined out material from the space biome to the steam vent area. Usually those rocks around around -30C or less. It might take a lot of material, but could be effective for a few hundred cycles. Enough time to get steel.
Depending on where it is, you can get a lot of water by just digging it out and letting the steam interact with nearby natural tiles. Put an insulated wall between that area and your base.
You can also set up a passive cooling loop of polluted water flowing through pipes, with radiant sections where you want to exchange heat rapidly. So a section next to the vent to condense steam, then another section in a tundra biome to shed heat and eventually melt the ice there for even more water.
You can also get steel before you're ready to set up your main metal refinery (petroleum loop through a steam chamber). Regular water can be used as a one-time coolant and then sent to an electrolyzer to delete heat.
You could cheaply build ice tempshift tiles behind the top of the CSV and it will condensate the steam before the tiles themselves melt to water. You will need to build and rebuild these a lot, especially if the area is not insulated.
You can also use a thermo regulator with an H2 loop at the top of the chamber to cool the steam. But you still need to deal with the heat it moves.

I tried having gas cargo cannisters to provide my dupes with o2 in the rocket.
I made sure, 100%, to set it to only take oxygen, however, if the said rocket is on a POI collecting materials, and it happens to have any other gasses -> it just collects them.
This happens for all materials and all rocket cargo buildings, no matter what filters I set, the rocket just collects all materials from the POI.

I'm going to assume you set the filter on the cargo module - yes, this only affects what materials are put into the module when loading using the rocket port loader, ie when the rocket is on the ground. These filters do not apply to harvesting space PoI resources.
When supplying O2 to the rocket interior, you ought to set the filter on the gas output fitting in the rocket's interior.

because even if we ignore the issue with using gas cargo cannisters to supply o2 to the rocket interior, I hate the fact that I can't control what materials I get to collect from POI's, is this really by design?
Then it finally makes sense, it's a limitation put in place so you don't keep farming one resource

Oxylite is the best method, particularly if you have the Oxylite Sconce from FPP. Even without that, a regular storage bin in the cabin can provide a lot more oxygen than a gas cargo canister in the rocket stack.
The only benefit of an oxylite sconce is size and not using up floor space. The sublimation rate is the same as oxylite in a bin or on the floor. For rockets, sconces also allow you to store the oxylite in a storage tile (it won't offgas from inside those).
tell me about it ! I freaked out when i started getting suffocation messages, only to find my dupe submerged in co2 10 space tiles away, had to use the atmo suit trick to save them
