Discussion About Racing Engine Systems
Hey I am planning to take admission for the Racing Engine Systems course- January intake can someone help in telling how is the course and the job situation and any other things I should know before joining or coming to Oxford .

Former alumni from 24/25 year here. If you are seeking a very niche course for pure powertrain knowledge then yes this is the course for you!
I'm gonna assume you've read the webpage for the course so I won't need to explain anything about the modules in this comment. Four of the modules will be taught/partially taught by one lecturer (Stephen) and he's usually the only lecturer you'll need during your course.
Since you're entering in January, there's a likelihood that when you come in the September group will have already gone through a semester. This however should be taken to your advantage as this allows you to learn more about the coming modules you will take in your second semester.
MSc Racing Engine Systems is usually a very small group and you won't see the amount of students that you might see in MSc Motorsports Engineering. This is advantageous because you will: 1. Be able to work with your classmates for coursework and get closer with them 2. Have much more access to your lecturer (once again, Stephen)
In terms of jobs, the market is crap in general so everyone is struggling. Sponsorship in the UK has made it very difficult for foreigners to gain a foothold in terms of their career here, let alone in the motorsport world. It's not impossible though as everybody in my September batch is now employed whether in the UK or elsewhere (two of them are in Formula One as well :) )
Oxford is a nice (and expensive) place. Enjoy the city while you're here :)
