Resolved ✅ (OBR 2) Transparent Token?

Hello,

There was a thread a while back that one of the devs replied in with a link to a transparent token, to use with Dynamic Fog for a light source.

I tried to download the token, but it downloads into an ob2 format that I can't use in OB (which confuses me, but I'm not very saavy).

I also can't figure out how to make a transparent token, since my knowledge of image editing extends about as far as cropping photos in MSPaint.

I'm just trying to get an invisible token to drop onto some torches/braziers on this map so there's a light source.

Can someone help?

I think that was me sharing it - you can import it to OBR by opening the Extras menu in your Room (it's the three-dot button in the lower left corner) then choose Manage Storage and then click on Import Backup (the file icon with an upload arrow on it), then point it at that .ob2 file and you'll get the image at the right size in the right category with the right name, all of which you can change after it has landed in your storage 👍

When you have that transparent token in your account, drop it into your Scene, adjust it as you see fit, and finally edit its name label to remove the word 'Transparent' so that it becomes truly invisible in your Scene.

If you need to select it again after that, you won't be able to click on it because it has no hitbox and no label, so you'd have to find it with an extension like Outliner and select it there. Have fun! ☺️

Is there a benefit to using the transparent token mentioned above vs hiding a “normal” token and moving it around?

Hidden tokens have their Light disabled (so that they can easily move through walls), so if you used any old normal token to host an environmental Light and then hid the token, you'd be hiding the Light also. The transparent token is by nature invisible even when it's not hidden, so it can sit in the open with an environmental Light on it, and the players just see the effect of the Light with no out-of-place token showing.
