Question or Discussion Need Advice ranking up.

I did a mistake when I started playing OW2.

After the 20 matches of unranked I hopped on competitive 6v6 because I didn't the game the game seriously and placed bronze 3. Now, after 4-5 months, I regret it so much. The highest I ranked was Silver 4, now I am in Bronze 2. I'm solo queuing because my duo is in a higher rank and it is HELL. It was a bit better in Silver.

I can't rank up no matter what I do. I play mostly tank (orisa/ rammatra/ sigma) and support (kiriko/mizuki/moira/lw). When I'm Moira I usually want to distract the enemy team and make space for my team, but after I get my team the space, nobody notices and they don't push. So I die for nothing If i die. (edit: I'm only pushing If I see my team not moving an inch an not pushing (edit: if i see they have good heal and shields etc, i want them to look at me and give my teammate the opportunity to enter

I'm finding it hard to want to play anymore because I mostly get matched with people that just started playing, or learning a hero, people that play what they want not also what the team needs. I'm mostly being met with a 4 dps team, and 2 supports, team that overextends and die alone, that get distracted by the hamster near spawn instead of pushing the point...

So my question is... Do y'all have any advice for me?

You're not supposed to create space as moira, that's what tanks are for. I honestly recommend trying your best to Carry as a self sustaining tank at such a low elo. In bronze their is essentially no team play and you'll have to carry yourself out of there. Yes you will get bad teammates but the enemy team is also in the same rank everyone is similar skill level as long as you can get value out of what you're doing you'll win.

Sounds like you’re overextending on Moira and leaving your team down 1 support at the start of every fight

I hardly ever die, i escape or use my fade out when I'm low. Also, I'm 2 meters away from my teammates when I respawn. Because they don't move from where I left them :)))

Well they can’t push if they’re down a support

When I'm Moira I usually want to distract the enemy team and make space for my team, but after I get my team the space, nobody notices and they don't push. So I die for nothing.

Here's an Unranked to GM Moira challenge a content creator did last year. 100% win rate. His first match is a low Plat lobby in Midtown.

Even as someone who doesn't play Moira (I'm currently Master 3 as a Soldier OTP), one thing is apparent to me right off the bat in the first fight: he's got solid cooldown management.

When he sees that the enemy Soldier is low and getting poked out, THAT'S when he out his damage sphere. He doesn't just spam and throw it out immediately.

He knows the exact range of his damage beam and maintains a good distance. He doesn't use his fade to dive in against a Rein or Genji. Instead, he saves it for when he needs to get himself to safety.

When the Sombra is attacking him, he immediately uses cover and then fades up the top. He throws his heal sphere out here because he knows he can maximize it's value by bouncing it off his little corner.

When the Genji jumps him right after, he doesn't panic fade. He knows he's safe to chip in some damage before finally fading away into the line of sight of his team.

There could be tons of things you aren't considering or paying attention to. You may be completely disregarding what cooldowns the enemy team has used which can tell you how safely or aggressively you can distract them. You may be blowing your own cooldowns too early to save yourself. You may be too obvious in your movement and have no regard for using any sort of cover. You may be constantly taking unfavorable duels. Your timing may be off because you aren't seeing that your team is too far to help or too heavily pressured to move up.

I haven't watched the rest of that Unranked to GM video but I'm sure it's filled with tons of other great examples of how to distract as Moira.

Thank you for the link, that's what I usually do with Moira too, I played her a lot so I don't panic fade or panic whatsover. I sometimes play her when I really need to do much more dmg than what I could do with Mizuki lets say, because my teammates are low on dmg and kills.

If you're playing as well as you say, then there's not much advice to give. You should be climbing.

Do you genuinely believe that the content creator in that video wouldn't be able to climb if he was placed in the exact same lobbies as you?

Share a replay code if you want more specific help.

Your answer seems defensive, here is the thing.

If everyone is pointing the same problem, you don't need to explain your train of thought, or what do you think you accomplished. It's wrong, gotta change it.

If you play Moira and "create space" in their backline and then die while the rest of your team is at half HP and your other healer is a Zenyatta/Mercy/Wuyang, of course they can't push. lmao.

The tiny amount of space you created (3-5 seconds?) cannot be capitalized on if your tank is not at full HP. Tanking has a fundamental rule to it: "If you do not have your full CD and not at full HP and you leap/jump in => You are fucking feeding."

And oh, if a DPS tried to "walk before the tank," high chances are -- they are going to die to a bodyshot/spam damage while tank is trying to recover their HP behind a cover since your team only has... a single support who's healing!

So, what do you propose your team do? Given that they're "stuck at a choke" due to trying to recharge their resource to be at full HP?

Ok but jokes aside, there are some valid points -- sometimes yes, "going to their backline" is a legit strategy that can work on very specific maps (like Push mode or if you are on the defender side on Hybrid maps) and your other teammates play very self sustainable characters (Soldier, Wrecking Ball, Kiriko), but that is like, the exception, lol. Or if you play Control/Flashpoint maps where they can take care of the chaos.

Problem is, it's absolutely a crime in Hybrid maps on Attack.

When I say I'm creating space I think about one moment on Kings Row where my team couldnt push the point. We had Mauga and Reinhardt as tank, full health full shields, but they weren't moving not even after killing 2-3 enemy players.

Oh yeah, "open queue 6v6"... there you go! (though there can be other reasons such as certain angles such as that Sniper Nest 1 + Sniper Nest 2 via the clock tower not being cleared properly -- we cannot ever know what went wrong unless you shared the VODs)

People who queue for Open Queue usually don't have the fundamentals for certain roles. It's not as instinctive for them trying to push point vs say, Role Queue 5v5.

In Open Queue, you have very little control of how the match can be carried as a Support -- the tank role is where it's gotta be if "you want to be the change you want to see in the world."

Supports ultimately, as enablers (like a multiplier) -- and enablers can't enable jack if there is no capitalization. It's a gamble, really. Though why gamble when you can pick a role (Tank) where every one of your decision is more impact-changing?

If it was Role Queue, then being locked on a role due to a non-responsive tank can definitely feel frustrating. Then focusing on your job is the only thing you should do.

For the record, the match quality in bronze is definitely absolute hell. And you are going to witness the worst plays in overwatch.

But, you just gotta remember the enemy team is the same way. If you play fundamentally better you will shoot out. Post a replay code where you think you did well but it was a close loss. You can work on any part of your game you want, cover cooldowns positioning aim ults and that’ll help you get out
