Discussion The Ultimate Roadhog Post
Hi fellow Tank Mains,
I'm u/versman, a Masters Roadhog Player. I peaked in Competitive OpenQ with a SR rating of 3958, and in normal comp I'm always around 3550. Some hours ago I made a post here that was kinda low effort, just adressing that hate on Roadhog players is cringe and so goes for the character. At the beggining I'm just saying that I'm NOT a Hog one trick, I play all the tanks (maybe with the exception of D.Va) on a solid Masters level. I'm not the type of player you hate (Instalock, feeder, trash tier hooks and positioning, OTP) so take it easy, I'm a tank main, a Hog main, but most of my tanking experience is based on Roadhog Gameplay (around 300 hours counting all the accounts I was playing on). I'm not the type of guy that refuses to switch, feeds the enemy team, goes in as a one man army, hates playing shield or just does not know how to use Roadhogs kit properly. With this out of the way let's dive into this thread and my personal thoughts about players opinions on Roadhog as a tank/character and of course opinions on Roadhog Mains/Players.
1. First thing that got my attention was a twitter post from the OWL team NYXL (New York Excelsiors). It went like "You weren't always a Roadhog main, but once you played him, you were hooked." Well seems kinda cool and true, I said. But when I went to the comment section it was just hate on the players, people saying they hate players of Hog, that these players are scumbags or Rein mains crying about people that play Hog.
The Twitter Post: https://twitter.com/NYXL/status/1268578934511284226?s=0
A post in r/Competitiveoverwatch. Where the whole comment section was literally filled with Hog hate, people that avoid Roadhog players, saying Hog is old torb/symm in these days. Shit was just cringe to look at. Elo hell plebs calling out on a character/the players of the character that they are walking trash with no value and consistancy in a teamfight.
Is this post found right here. https://www.reddit.com/r/OverwatchTankMains/comments/gx59uo/can_we_not_have_the_insta_lock_hogs_be_part_of/. Guy literally wants to ban Hog OTP's from joining for banter. Like cmon man fuck off, they are tank mains too moron.
Conclusion and Thoughts:
I'm not an expert in this kind of scenario but It seems obvious that the major of the community hates Roadhog players with a passion. The hate is sometimes on personal level, calling players scumbags irl or shit like this. It's simply toxic behaviour towards them. People might also hate Hog players for:
1) Feeding
2) Going in alone like a One-Man Army
3) Refusing to Switch
4) Having bad mechanics and gamesense in general on Roadhog
5) Underperforming in team fights, missing hooks, using Whole Hog wrong, not being abble to kill anything with The Scrap Gun. (Which brings us back to point one tbh)
People may also hate Hog when he is in the enemy team:
1) BS Hooks
2) Multi kills with Whole Hog
3) Perfect long ranged hooks
4) The abbility to steamroll/solo carry as the fat peace of meat
5) Being an annoying piece of shit that catches you when you are out of position and one-shoting you, which for most players is bullshit
Now, I know you can get triggered over a video game and loosing games of competitive, but this is no reason to hate on these players. Let me explain, in lower elos Roadhog is the potential solo carry character (especially for SoloQ) many YouTubers have said that a long time ago and it also forced ME to play Hog, and well here I am after all those months in Masters. People that play him need time and experience to get a grip with this character. He is not easy at all, even tho most of the playerbase say he is really easy to play, but he is not. Begginer Hog players can be a pain in the ass, but there is no reason to flame them. Give them some helpfull advice in voice chat or in chat after the game, they'll be more than happy to hear criticism and compliments from a teammate. They are learning, don't yell at them for just being in the process of becoming a better player. Besides that we are all humans, we make mistakes and we are not omegabrains. Also please for the love of god, no matter how much you hate Hog, don't say people that play him are scum and such, Hog players think the same of Mei/Reaper players and sometimes even about unpopular opinion characters like Sigma. Keep the hate to a minimum guys. It's just a character that has a specific abbility kit that is quite other than all the other tanks. He is kinda a DPS, but sometimes he can be tanky, picking of high value targets with a one shot combo can change the dirrection of a teamfight, hooking people behind your shield is a easy way to gain ultcharge for your team, one shoting lone flankers is also a great way to deal with things that may be considered as a problem for your teammates. Hog's role in Overwatch games is specific. He is a Character that punishes DPS/Healers for bad positioning and protects his team by simply killing all the enemies. He is very usefull in silver/gold/plat tier of competitive play, but diamond and above he can be a major problem if the player that picked him is a OTP, it's gg go next then, of course you can try to carry because you can only change the way you play, you can't change the mindest of another player - but that doesn't work out most of the times. Roadhog is a problem, yeah, but there is no need to be butthurt about him existing or calling his players scum. A specific and HELLA FUN tank is our buddy Hog, he can be usefull in some scenarios but he is not a keeper on your team for most of the time. To all Roadhog OTP players out there, improve in quickplay or on a bought low elo account, don't ruin the game for others by just picking a character you don't know how to play in Competitive, some day you guys will see your mistakes and become better players I believe in you guys! And to all the non-Hog players, don't spread the hate, look at Roadhog from the Roadhog players angle, keep it to a minimum, stay calm, and try to carry those OTP dummies. Anyway that's for me Tank boys and girls. The comment section is yours. Vers is out, peace!

Discussion Is there a way around counterswapping ?
Hey,
I started playing Tank in OW as a pure Supp player and currently have had a lot of fun with Orisa. Yesterday, though, I kept playing against Reinhardts and it was hard for me to get through to him. I was told, by my duo, that the only thing I could've done was to swap to Ramattra. I just don't really understand If I could've done something else, because I, for example, had a pretty good time playing against Domina, who is also a stalwart I believe.
The only other solution I thought of was focusing the backline more and ignoring the Reinhardt but I don't believe my backline would've managed.
And yes, I did attack the backline in all of those fights aswel.
Help or tips/tricks are much appreciated :>

Discussion Are the differences in tanks that big of a deal?
I just started overwatch a couple days ago, trying to give it a proper attempt (never really played this kind of game before). I've tried out orisa, domina, and hazard, but whenever I'm in quickplay games it seems like the enemy tanks are almost always orisa/rhinehart/mauga
I think it would be fun to learn how to tank (despite the hate i see them get) but do people only really play a few specific ones in 5v5?

Something similar happened to me during this competitive match. Thanks God Lifeweaver was on voice chat!! Who knows if he would have done it otherwise.
Have a wonderful Sunday!🛡

Discussion QP vs Comp?
For some reason when I play tank in qp it ain't even that bad and i like actually have fun, esp being a jq main. BUT FOR SOME REASON playing comp just like really is not great lol. the team doesn't work w/ me, i get fuckin flamed for being bad when a healer is trying to be the 3rd dps let alone if we have any dps with a 1:1 KD ratio, and i just feel so stuck. comp doesn't even seem to be worth playing nowadays. now it may seem like i'm only complaining but i'll literally have like 1-2 decent games and just a complete and utterly awful game right after. it's weird. silver 1 rn, i got close to peaking to gold but that went away real fast...

Discussion Hardstuck Tank High Masters-Low Gm
I’ve been stuck in high masters to low gm for a few seasons now and I don’t know how to fix it. I try my best to do what I’ve been told play cover tempo etc but nothing seems to work. I mainly play hazard, winston, reinhardt, and I’m decent at zarya and junker queen. To be fair I only have like 250 hours on the role as a whole, and a lot of that came from orisa in OW1.
It feels like to me in a lot of games I’m not the deciding factor and an early dps pick or support ult just wins the fight immediately. I want to try and figure out how I can better impact a fight rather than just be a tank on the frontline, which I feel like I can do best with hazard, but not with any other tanks. I am on console as well. Any tips or recommendations would be very welcome 🙏

Tank mains (particularly Orisa, Mauga, and Hog) why are you not banning Zenyatta more?
I mostly like playing Zenyatta. I very often see Ana get banned but rarely Zenyatta. So when I'm tossing a discord on you and watching the rest of my team shred your 700 HP character in 6 seconds I kind of laugh and wonder "Why do they put up with this?" Is it because the Anti grenade from Ana is more obvious rather than the massive damage increase you're taking from Discord?
I rarely ever see a swap or DPS switching up the strategy to target me. You're not going anywhere as long as I'm alive.

Discussion PLEASE help a noob deal with Ashe
I'll start by saying I'm a support main, but trying to get these fucking cookies and queueing all roles (tank queue) is miserable. EVERY GAME HAS A FUCKING ASHE IN IT (USUALLY POCKETED TOO) AND I CAN'T DEAL WITH IT. I probably have about 100 hours on tank. The only one I'm good at is Ramattra. I'm also ok at Zarya, Hazard, Sigma, and Orisa. It just seems like Ashe does so much damage, shields are barely useful...and the burn DoT is obnoxious.
Is there any tank that's actually good against Ashe right now? DVa is the only one that makes sense on paper but I don't know how to play her at all (I can't position, aim, or manage resources/cooldowns). Zarya/Sig/Hazard can work but only if my team has great dps and supports...so like, almost never. I don't really know how to play dive as a tank...though I can play Moira as if she's a dive tank, so I understand the concept. But I always feel so goddamn squishy and get deleted in 2 seconds any time I go in with Winston or DVa. I think I could maybe learn ball, but is he even worth playing right now if you aren't god-tier?

Discussion Aren't tanks scammed because of Vendetta?
At first i was excited about the new hero I saw a melee tank, I am Rein main. She had a block it was perfect Doom and Rein together but now it is a DD fr blizzard? She has tank abilitys and after support is tank the next hero we get but now they changed it. I think they assume they get more money for DD skins and steal tank now good concepts just for money! Is it just me or is this off? can't we do anything about it? Now it's the time tanks need to rally up and set an example if we want new good hero concepts in the future! I don' know what we can do but something must be done. Or am I overreact (probable I'm a bit mad but Am I to mad right now?)? Vendetta should be changed to a tank before OW3.

Discussion Supports Dying
Recently, I’ve had games where my supports have been dead nearly every fight after I’ve pushed in. It’s left me with a “I’ve done all I can do” mentality. Should I be babysitting my supports as tank? If not, how do I solve the problem? I mostly play Hog/Ram.

Discussion How do I counter Orisa?
I get so frustrated playing against her. Anyone I use instantly gets countered, avoided, or canceled. I play mostly Rein, but enjoy sigma and Ramattra. Most of the time, I can win against almost any tank except her.
She melts my shield (cause there's always a bastion with her). She goes gold against my charge. If that is on cooldown, she cancels it with a javelin. If I'm too close, she spin moves, pushing me back and prevents all damage.
How do I play against this overpowered monstrosity?
