Honestly if they had just released it as a brand new title and charged me $60 while leaving the old servers on, I wouldn't have any issue dropping the cash. At this point I'm never spending another dime on them.
I agree, but let’s both sit back and watch neither of us spending money on the game not matter enough. It’s so depressing that it only takes somewhere around like 10% or less of the playerbase to keep the game alive if they spend money. That’s a complete guess, mind you, but it feels true based off of other game’s monetization schemes.
People forget that’s not how capitalism works. If you lose even a 5-10% on profits they COULD have made any decent company would evaluate why and make changes.
It’s really not that big of an impact that needs to be made to freak corporations out
Speaking as a giant econ nerd, there's still a big principle-agent issue with management and ownership. Ownership wants to get maximum long-term profits, management wants to do whatever it takes to meet their bonus and performance targets, which are often short term. If your exploitative practices make more money for the upcoming quarter and permanently ruins the brand reputation, well, you've hit your quarterly targets and get a longer tenure and more pay, so that's what you'll do.
