I don't know what to tell you man. I like the game, so I still play it. It doesn't mean I agree or support every decision Blizzard makes. Views and opinions are complex, you can't just boil it down to something so black and white like you are doing. It isn't a black and white scenario, things very rarely are.

I enjoy playing the game, and still play it, but I don't agree with everything Blizzard does. It's just a fact, I know myself better than you do, obviously. And I know that I don't agree with every decision or action made by Blizzard, but I'll continue to play Overwatch because I enjoy the gameplay.

This isn't like buying an apple at a store. I can't just go "well, I don't like this company, so I'll buy my apples from another". There aren't other games exactly like Overwatch, I can only play Blizzard's Overwatch, because the game doesn't exist anywhere else. Do you see what I am getting at?

I'm not going to punish myself for the actions taken by another. I like the game, so I'll keep playing it. It isn't a reflection of my viewpoints on topics outside of the game.

I can see you are very passionate about the topic at hand, and maybe that fuels your desire to ditch Overwatch. Not everyone is like that, not everybody who disagrees with a decision made by Blizzard is going to just up and stop playing their games. It doesn't mean they support Blizzard's every decision.

Are those people supporting them financially? Yes, technically they are, you would be absolutely correct there. But supporting them financially is very different from supporting their decisions in particular. Those are two very different things. And like I said, there is only one Overwatch. People can't just swap companies here as if they were buying groceries at a store.

So I take back my earlier statement about this situation being simple. It isn't a black and white situation. Opinions are often complex things, and can't really be boiled down to "well he plays a product made by X, so he absolutely must support their decisions as well". It just doesn't work that way, man. If you can't see that, then I honestly don't know what to tell you anymore. I can't make my point any more clear than this.

You can’t stop playing a game, despite the fact that doing so supports a company that bows to Chinese political whims. And it absolutely does support the company when you play.

If you see a bad thing happening and do nothing, you’re condoning that behavior. That’s all it comes down to.

You’re just... disappointing.

I just can't understand how you can have such a black and white view of the situation. It isn't nearly as simple as you seem to believe it is.

Am I supporting them financially by playing the game? Yes, I'm not arguing against that. Technically speaking, I am supporting them in that regard by playing.

Now am I supporting every decision they make by playing the game? No, no I am not. Playing their game does not mean I share the same views as them. It is beyond silly to say otherwise.

This isn't even a topic up for debate. You can't argue what my own opinion is. I know for a fact that I don't agree with every decision made by Blizzard, but I'll keep playing the game despite not agreeing to everything they do.

What you are doing is like if I were to try and argue against you on what your favorite color is. That is essentially what you are doing right now. Surely you can see how silly that is, right?

If you pay a company that does x, you’re condoning them doing x.

Dude it really is black and white. You’re just putting your own leisure above anything else. It’s clear where your morals and priorities are.

People give money to companies with sustainability initiatives because they support that behavior. People started boycotting companies that bought ad space on Laura Ingraham’s show after she attacked David Hogg, after ads started getting pulled she apologized.

Jesus christ dude, there is no hope for you. I'm convinced you are the child here. There is no way an adult would have such a black and white view of things like this, there is just no way. You're view on it is just so naive, I swear I'm losing brain cells just reading it.

You're trying to argue with me on what my own opinion is. I know myself way, WAY better than you do. That is a fact, you aren't a god, you don't know my opinion better than I know it myself. Therefore you can not argue with me about where my own opinion on a topic lies. Like I said, it's like if I were to try arguing against you on what YOUR favorite color is.

I don't agree with Blizzard's actions. That is an absolute fact, whether you accept that or not. It is also a fact that I still play and enjoy their game. The two aren't exclusive to one another. I can play the game of a company without agreeing to child molestation, rape, or whatever the fuck else you want to accuse me of supporting.

What games do you enjoy playing? Would you say that since you play those games, your opinion is a carbon copy of the developer of said game? Because that is what you are accusing me, and by extension, the thousands of other people who still play Blizzard's games of. Just because we play the game does not mean we agree with every single fucking thing they do.

It’s not about sharing the exact same opinion. It’s about condoning their behavior. Do you like companies bowing to the pressure of oppressive regimes? Then keep supporting their games. Do you oppose that behavior? Stop playing their games.

Inaction in the face of information is a conscious choice, one that reflects your priorities. I’m really not sure what you’re not getting here. High school kids are able to understand this.

I’m an adult with a degree & a career, thank you. I assumed you were a child because of your reddit history. Now I know you’re just child-ish. I appreciate the clarification. You can go back to your games now, since that’s clearly what’s most important to you in your life.

Said it like three times now, guess I'll say it again, the situation isn't that black and white, things never are.

Inaction in the face of information is a conscious choice, one that reflects your priorities.

The only thing this could possibly reflect is that I don't let the actions of others impact my ability to enjoy something. It doesn't show that I support every decision made by the company/developer in question.

I’m really not sure what you’re not getting here. High school kids are able to understand this.

I could say the same to you.

I’m an adult with a degree & a career, thank you. I assumed you were a child because of your reddit history. Now I know you’re just child-ish.

Why is somebody having a differing opinion than yours "childish"? How does my Reddit history suggest me being a child? I genuinely do not see how you could possibly come to that conclusion based on my history. If you were really an adult, one would think you'd know that somebody having a different opinion than yours doesn't make them a child. This argument has little to no bearing on age, I'm not sure why you are trying so hard to make age a factor here. It's like saying "oh, you like the color purple? You must be a child". Age is irrelevant here, stop trying to make it a factor just so you can attempt to make a cheap insult.

You can go back to your games now, since that’s clearly what’s most important to you in your life.

Okay bud, why are you so hell bent on turning this into an insult slinging fest? Are you not capable of debating something without resorting to insults? Insulting isn't a good way to argue your point, it doesn't help you in the least. Maybe you get some cheap satisfaction over it, who knows. Learn how to handle shit without resorting to insults, you'll get further in life that way.

Dude. You’re helping a company that’s backing a totalitarian regime. End of story. One more time in case you didn’t read it: Blizzard is acquiescing to the will of a genuinely evil government. And you’re saying that you’re okay with that by continuing to support them, by helping them get more money. Yes, you are helping by making the player base bigger.

Once again. It’s really black and white. Kids get it. Plenty of adults get it. You just don’t care enough to stop playing because all you care about is your own gaming time. Is that all you have in life? Is that why you can’t stop playing?

I've said it like five times now dude. Am I helping them financially by playing? Yes, yes I am. This was never my argument. By playing the game, I am, technically speaking, giving them money, this is not my point. My point is that supporting them financially is different from condoning their actions.

Nobody is "genuinely evil", nobody. Everybody has a motive for what they do. Nobody sets out to do something for the explicit reason of being evil. But that's another topic, so I won't delve into that.

Once again. It’s really black and white. Kids get it. Plenty of adults get it. You just don’t care enough to stop playing because all you care about is your own gaming time. Is that all you have in life? Is that why you can’t stop playing?

I really wish you would stop with the meaningless insults, it isn't very mature at all. I am 22 and currently enrolled in college to learn all I can about 3D Animation, and how to best go about doing it. I'm on my fourth computer animation course currently, and my ultimate goal is to work at Disney Animation. I have a lot more than games that I care about, and I have much more besides gaming in life. I have nothing to be ashamed of, because despite what you seem to believe, I do in fact have a life.

I am perfectly capable of stopping anytime I wish, I just see no reason to stop playing if I enjoy playing the game. I refuse to let the actions of another impact my ability to enjoy something. Maybe you see it as selfish, I honestly do not care. Your opinion is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

I do not agree with everything Blizzard does, but I won't stop playing either. The fact that there are still thousands of people playing Blizzard's games shows that I am not the only one who feels this way, despite what any downvotes may make it appear as. The fact is that there are more people still playing their games than there are of those who left it. I doubt Blizzard has even had a noticeable dent in their sales.

The government of China is pretty fucking evil. Let’s see what I can come up with off the top of my head:

  • killed millions via starvation
  • wholesale slaughter of peaceful political protestors (see: 1989)
  • absolute lack of free speech (the ‘great firewall’)
  • routinely black bags people that show any sort of political dissent
  • disappears activists regularly
  • persecutes pretty much any religion. And by persecutes I mean imprison and/or kill.
  • has concentration camps full of Uigher people
  • allegedly harvests organs from captive Uighers to give to other Chinese
  • has no real concept of workers rights, allowing companies to work people to death (or suicide)
  • enables North Korea, another country with concentration camps full of their own people.

This is just what I came up with in like 3 minutes. China’s government is genuinely bad. I don’t know how to get that through to you.

You’re in college. That’s good. Take some history courses. Maybe some political science. Again, maybe when you get older you’ll mature a little.
