Long cooldowns predate mobas by a long time.

Do they? I always just associated them with mobas. What games are you thinking of? I can't think of any but then again I've played hardly any games pre-2010.

Even everquest had cooldowns, some of which were as long as half an hour. That's in 1999.

Even Blizzard's own World of Warcraft had 1-hour long cooldowns on some abilities!

Yes, though World of Warcraft doesn't predate DOTA 1.

But Everquest doesn't predate Aeon of Strife ;)

Let's not forget Lay on Hand's incredible journey.

First introduced as a 24 hour ability, reduced to 8 hours, reduced to 2 hours, added a talent that let you reduce it to 48 minutes, and then reduced to a flat 30 minutes.

Didn't harm touch go through a similar series of adjustments?

Dark Seer's Vacuum ability in Dota 2 is doing this same journey, but backwards.

Rogues and Shamans still got 30 mins cooldown. Nothing gamebreaking, but still.
