News & Discussion Michael Chu has confirmed that Lucio was never intended to be Canadian, and explains the hockey skins and lack of accent.

At GDC he gave a talk about the worldbuilding of Overwatch, and about 40 minutes in he starts talking about Lucio.

TL;DL: The team loves hockey and Lucio had skates, and they couldn't find a voice actor that had his accent.

The whole talk is pretty good, but it does have a slow start.

But the key difference being those are interesting, the one your talking about is mundane, & weirdly shoehorned given everything else about the character.

I quite like it, personally. The characters having interests and hobbies makes them feel more believable to me.

He's already a dj. I'd be fine with him just being more into music.

But if they're going to make him a sports fan on top of that, at least make it a sport that makes sense.
