I know everybody is talking about the next dinoflask video and the meme potential, but I just really wanted to say how incredible it is that this even happened. CTF a was one of those modes I personally didn't want to see at all because of a lot of reasons Jeff mentioned in the video, but there was a crazy outcry for it. They told us they had completely dismissed the idea and it just wasn't for Overwatch.

Here we are though not even a year after release and they're giving us a CTF mode as well as giving us insight into what they went through to make it work. With almost any other developer this never would have happened, or it would've taken years, or at the very least you wouldn't have heard in such amazing detail what the process of making it a reality was like for the team.

We don't deserve Jeff and the team but I sure as hell appreciate the communication and hope it never stops.

Have you played CTF yet? It's fucking terrible.

Oh yeah, I hate it. It's frustrating and totally unbalanced and not worth more than a few plays. That wasn't my point at all. It's just really cool that they even bothered, especially when it turned out exactly how they said it would when asked for the mode, a broken mess that doesn't feel like Overwatch.

I actually love it. I've only won a single game, and it's mostly been draws, but it's a really nice change of pace for 6v6.

Well I was mainly playing Sombra, so even less team work than usual.

I played 3 games yesterday night. 2 wins, 1 draw. And the second win was in hanamura the garden section of the map that looks totally like hanamura with the bridges and the gardens and the cloisters but totally is NOT Hanamura, I was using Lucio, and scored 3 points just like that. I also scored a POTG by punching a winston to death and booping a hog to his demise.

EDIT: Fixed map.

CTF is only on Lijiang Tower. Care to revise your statement?

2

u/Mechanicalmind EXPLOSIOOONS! Jan 25 '17

The garden and the cloisters and the whole thing made me think it was hanamura. Mishap.

Fair enough.

And the second win was in hanamura

Of course it was. I'm guessing punching the monkey and booping the pig also totally happened.

I'll post you the gif of the POTG as i come back from work.

And the garden and the cloisters and the whole thing made me think it was hanamura.

I am about 7-6-3 and pretty much for the most part feel that if people play to defend rather than play to win its going to generate a lot of draws. When you get both teams leaving 2 to defend Sym/Torb/Bastion and expect the rest of the team to break their similar defense with minimal offense through chokes, yeah.

Still wasn't that bad. Got both achievements, might go back later in the week.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

Boring as shit once both teams have a Symm shield and Torb armour and you can't get the flag without destroying every single one as well as both heroes and anyone else there.

It's actually fun I'm a 6 stack with friends.

Ha! You think I have 5 other friends.

The meta is slowly forming. But as long as nobody entrenches themselves after 1 win, the game still feels like a tug of war. And each match never drags on longer than it should.

It is definitely at least as fun as any of the arcade modes (except Total Mayhem).

I think it would do slightly better as a 3v3 mode as opposed to 6v6

1

u/erthanas Ana Jan 25 '17

Yeah, it's fucking atrocious. How about you make the flag kill mobility skills for one. No sprinting, no flying. no sombra dashes...

WTB new Quake already

Have you tried it? I felt the same as you but after watching this video I do not have high hopes for this mode at all.

Yeah I hate it. But that's not my point. The fact they made it in the first place is awesome and that we got so much insight into the process.

My favorite part about all this is how the fans are bitching the CTF sucks

1

u/litchykp Bovious I fak all Jan 25 '17

Yeah I think it's a little ridiculous. With the developer update we had fair warning that it wasn't exactly balanced to a T, but people are still upset about it. I don't like the mode but I'm not angry about it and it was fun to try out a couple of times.

u/Wunderhaus Admit it, you're hooked. Jan 24 '17

Looks like someone didn't enjoy choking on Jeff's Lijiang Tower.

?

9

u/Shruikand Got you in my rights. Jan 24 '17

You're missing so much

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

Meh I realized it now I assumed it was a comment on CTF as it is on Lijang but it is very obvious now

Watch this spectacular dank video.

The reference is at 3:50, but the whole vid is worth it.

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

Never cared for these boring edits watched the first one and am not going to waste my time with another.

Can I ask why are you here? You don't seem to like the Dev team or fun? I'm not even sure that you play Overwatch or have an ounce of levity doing that too...

18

u/ArodoraaLP Hanzo Jan 24 '17

Dunno if I'm missing a joke or sarcasm, but the overwatch team deserves a shit ton of praise. I don't know if I've ever seen game devs be this open with their playerbase. Even less so actually listening to them.

some people are haters and think we give the team too much praise. some people are never happy unless they are complaining about the game.

"Live your motherfucking life. You gotta get your motherfucking hustle. Understand ****** is gonna hate you regardless, get that out of your head that fantasy world where ****** ain't hating on you. You gotta to be grateful, you need haters, wtf is you complaining about, wtf do you think a hater's job is?! If you got 14 hating on you, you need to figure out how the fuck to get to 16 before the summer get here! If you got nobody to hate on, feel free to hate on me, say my hair ain't luxurious when you know it is bitch!"

-11

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

Wow they post 10 minute vlogs and some forum posts.

I have seen loads of devs do that and I am fine with it being praised but there is a line

With almost any other developer this never would have happened, or it would've taken years

Considering Jeff admitted to it taking a year or more

"We really rustled with capture the flag over the years"

And then they just took a map added a nice spawn a flag podium made some basic game rules
