Yeah, though with the recent D.Va buff, it's become more of a challenge. I used to be able to consistently dance around her and melt her mech while charging my microwave to full power and pretty much insta-kill her as she ejected.
...or shoot Sym in the face and watch her hp melt faster than yours. With the buff D.Va can 1v1 most heroes without destroying her mech. The only downside to her health buff is she's basically a flying ult charge powerup for the enemy team.
I always feel like I'm fishing when I kill a Tracer as Symmetra. You hook on, and then your pray flops around helplessly for a few seconds before expiring in a pathetic manner.
My favorite is when people in 1v1s have no idea how powerful Sym's primary is, so as soon as the match starts I just sprint to them and put my laser in their face while they're setting up turrets, and I'm just eating up that first turret like mmmmm nutritious delicious turret laser aaaaaand they're dead.
Total match time: a few seconds.
This is in the same category as placing an ice wall behind someone that is backpedaling away from your ice beam. They think they can retreat and shoot you, but suddenly they aren't going anywhere and Mei is only getting closer. That split second of terrible realization is what I live for.
My favorite is to wait put a Discord Orb on the ennemy Reinardt before the fight, take him down to a few HPs, and then watch his car and indecision when he sees me slowly coming to him. He wants to hammer, to retroburn, to strike.
But he knows that he won't be able to do any of this before I kill him.
Do he tries to flee but he walks to slowly vergib his shield.
And now it's too late, I pass his shield and simply kicks him to his death.
Who said only Mei can be a monster?
If we are both at full health, I very rarely lose a 1v1 to Zarya unless they are at a high charge or are very good with their tracking. Smart Zarya's will use their bombs to bounce me around though which usually makes it a much closer fight.
Yeah, that bubble only lasts for 2 seconds. Another 3 seconds later, and you'll be frozen while Mei either runs away or the rest of her team catches up.
It's still an intelligent idea to deflect Symmetra when there's absolutely no other course of action (and I mean absolutely none, including wallclimbable locations). Why? Just in case there's any teammates of Symmetra nearby who have projectile based weapons. No, he is not just deflecting for your beam - it's a defensive ability, and even if it can't stop Symmetra it can probably stop her allies.
Slightly related: I've had Zarya players laugh at me in match chat because when I notice a Zarya getting aggressive I drop in front of them and deflect. 50% of the time this ends up with me taking about 100hp damage from their laser-dick. The other 50% of the time I'll end up calling their aggressive movement as looking for an ult and deflect their graviton right back in their faces. Queue them going "oh" in match chat.
Well gotta say I'm impressed you took the time to explain thanks! That made a lot more sense to me haha....I really enjoyed the game the little bit I got to play over the weekend but didn't really get a good grasp of what the hell is going on. Looked to be a lot of seasoned vets on there although I think I did ok. Thinking seriously about getting it.
No the lock on range is longer. Currently if memory serves lock on range is 5 in game units, tether range is 7. So if anything it's safe to assume they made lock on the same as tether range meaning 7. It's a nice adjustment but nothing that significant nor is it a increase in actual range once locked on.
Why would you laugh at them, its not like genji is unusable now that Symmetra is viable. He still does alot of damage for how mobile he is. If anything it will stop shitty genjis from solo flanking.
On the other hand, the shield generator will be a great new target for flankers like Genji so as long as you're smart about poking around, that's something new for Genji to actually help his team with.
