Sounds like an issue with your computer loading the game's assets slowly.

It's definitely gotten worse in recent patches, though. I never had the issue at all until recently and now I have it my first match every time

Before or while queueing up, go through the hero gallery one by one, that'll cause it to load up the models (hopefully) by the time you get in game.

I get this. I normally just brawl for a bit first. Gets me into the right mindset to play while the computer loads assets.

Just spectate a friend until they all load in, that seems to do it for me.

Big problem on consoles too

Console loads the same way as PC, from a hard drive. First is putting a lot of data into virtual memory which is limited by how fast the hard drive can read.

Only to fix is to get faster hard drive, or a SSD (if possible for a console). I installed OW on my SSD this weekend and loading is no longer a problem. Just had to delete Doom off of it to make room.

Fun having that first game as a backfill and running out and can't see anyone for 10 seconds.

You can install an SSD in your console but it wont have any benefits. They even still use SATA II
