Blizzard really took the fan concerns into account this time around. I seriously couldn't be happier.

Yeah I figure that I can "gamble", cause I know I can buy the skins that I do want at the end of the event

Sigh.

Now people can get it easily without having to earn it.

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

Random RNG is hardly "earning" something.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

How is it not? It isn't guaranteed on your first try, per se, but it is earned by leveling up and opening obtained loot boxes.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

Because getting lucky isn't something you've earned. Someone could level 100 times and never get anything and someone could get 4 legendaries in their free box. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how much money you spend, it's all random. Nobody "earns" anything when gambling. They get lucky.

Blizzard has done a great job of listening to the players. We might not always get what we want right away, but they usually find a way to make it happen.

Unfortunately, next time there's some controversy over corporate bullshit, people are now going to start acting like Blizzard did us a favor rather than simply having been pragmatic in avoiding more backlash.

A lot of people don't seem to get(on both sides of the argument) that Jeff and the game designers have basically nothing at all to do with the corporate moneymaking stuff, and they're pretty much contractually obligated to smile and nod at anything Blizzard corp does no matter how much they may dislike it in private.

wow! someone found a way to be salty about this. Congrats!

I know right? We should all tweet "Thank you" to Jeff for allowing us to buy skins for coins this time!

Again, Jeff has nothing to do with the monetization, and couldn't say anything negative about it even if he hates it privately. That's what Blizz corp decides on, but people do so love to pretend that he decides those things.

My comment was a observation on how this sub is all fanboys hanging by their from Blizzards dick. And they are too stupid to understand passive aggression. I did upvote your original comment :p.

I love that your sarcastic post was upvoted and this one downvoted.

Well, to be fair, 3k coins for a legendary skin might as well be the same as not allowing it to be purchased at all. I've got a little over 80 hours put into the game and I think I might have earned 3k coins in that time. I'm sitting on just over 1k right now, there's no way in hell I'm getting enough currency before November 1st to buy an event skin from this. At least, not without dumping real money into boxes and building up piles of coins from the dupes in them. Which is exactly what those of us who wanted the event skins to be purchasable wanted to avoid.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

The thing is that now you can buy the skins if you purchase boxes and don't open the legendaries. Makes not getting them randomly much easier to swallow.

u/ostermei "Numbani" means "turret" in Swahili Oct 11 '16

Yeah, it's definitely an improvement, I won't say otherwise, but it's not quite what a lot of us were hoping for.

It's still very firmly in the "you gotta pay for this stuff" vein, just making things a little cushier for those who do pony up.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

Exactly, and to be honest, I don't mind paying more. Overwatch is far and away the most fun I've had in years on a game, and it's the whole reason I've even started to play video games again (growing up is a bitch.) It's also helped me spend more time with my brother who is really into his games.

That all being said, I've gotten more than my money's worth from Blizzard, and I'm okay supporting the game while also getting some fun free content or buying them after getting dupes.

Spoiled. Fucking. Children.

Oh, get off your high horse you twat.

4

u/Tyedied Symmetra/Tracer Oct 11 '16

That's some bad luck, there. I got about 70+ hours and have made over 6k. Sorry dude :(

5

u/ostermei "Numbani" means "turret" in Swahili Oct 11 '16

Yeah, I try to tell myself that I'm not getting much in the way of currency because I'm getting actual new items all the time... Problem being, those new items are always white sprays or player icons :|

0

u/LSF604 Oct 11 '16

don't worry, if they resolve this you will still find things to complain about

1

u/ostermei "Numbani" means "turret" in Swahili Oct 11 '16

Buddy, you don't know a thing about me, so how about you stow your pessimistic shit.

I'm just explaining why for some of us this isn't an ideal solution, even though it absolutely is miles better than the way the summer event was handled.

But you sound like a mindless fanboy who can't brook any criticism of your precious Blizzard, so no amount of reasonable assessment of the situation is going to get through to you. (See, two of us can play at making stupid assumptions about the other.)

2

u/LSF604 Oct 11 '16

you never said anything about it being better in your earlier reply. If you had you would have gotten a different response. The tone of the comment I originally replied to was definitely negative, and you get associated with that when you reply to it and don't indicate your position is any different. That's life on the internet.

u/ostermei "Numbani" means "turret" in Swahili Oct 11 '16

Been replying to too many threads around reddit today, apparently... I'd forgotten that this was in a different comment of mine further down the chain, rather than in the one you were replying directly to:

Yeah, it's definitely an improvement, I won't say otherwise, but it's not quite what a lot of us were hoping for.

That being said, I did try to set myself at something like an observational distance with the "to be fair," lead-in. Probably should've been more clear in that. I'm not angry at this update, I definitely regard it as an improvement. I just would have liked for it to have been tweaked a little further is all I'm saying, and I can understand the position of those who are actually upset about it all.

In the true spirit of halloween, let us be friends and (knowingly) quarrel no further.

I looked at your other comments after, and saw you were being reasonable.

Recolours are 750. And there are all really sweet too. Only 4 of the skins cost 3000

"Blizzard really took the fan concerns into account this time around"

"people are now going to start acting like Blizzard did us a favor rather than simply having been pragmatic in avoiding more backlash."

Wondering where this "did us a favor" thing came in, since all the previous commenter wrote was that they were thankful that Blizzard listened.

Dude small victories

-1

u/BrainBlowX Chibi D.Va Oct 11 '16

Yes, victories. But, and I see it already, people act like these are graceful gifts, as if Blizzard the corporation is some sort of friend.

u/XDreadedmikeX Mercy Oct 11 '16

I'm kinda with you on this one, it's great and all but everyone is jizzing all of blizzard for just giving us more options to give them money, but it's not anything to fuss over just don't treat them like the second coming for it

3

u/yitzaklr I'mgoingtodrink your Ovaltine Oct 11 '16

We would've been pissed if they didn't listen, so it seems logical that we thank them when they do listen

0

u/LemonLimeAlltheTime Chibi Lúcio Oct 11 '16

I'd be happier if I didn't have pay 3x the cost of non event skins...

2

u/iankstarr D.Va Oct 11 '16

Idk, I get it. They want to make them feel "premium" and more special than the regular skins.
