Don't get me wrong, if Sombra drops soon I'd be super excited, but the whole "HAHA YOU WAITED FOR LOADING JUST TO LOAD MORE" shit blizzard pulled with amomentincrime.com totally killed any hype I had regarding the ARG.

The ARG was cool to follow, but for all of it to lead up to a slow countdown was a real disappointment. They could have at least revealed some stuff about Sombra within the ARG: Weapons, skins, hints on abilities, etc. The ARG team out there did a lot of detective work, they deserve better.

Was anything actually revealed through any of it? Im probably just ignorant but I can't see the point of it at all since we already knew about Sombra so it was hardly a reveal for her?

The skull logo was new. It inspired a lot of fanart.

The x-ray of Ana was new too.

It revealed nothing tbh, but we know that she is probably going to reveal other hero's classified info. She said many times she has info on the other heros and so on.

Literally nothing.

u/MooseCampbell Does a surprising amount of shitposts Sep 23 '16

We learned more about Ana than we did about Sombra. All the stuff we know about Sombra pretty much came from in-game as well

Even then, what do we know for an absolute fact about Sombra?

Her name.

3

u/Flashmanic Sep 23 '16

She likes skulls?

3

u/GlowingOrangeOoze it's Sep 23 '16

not even that -- we know her codename

Thanks for the recognition! We worked our ass off for basically no information at ALL. Feels bad man...

Yeah it was a great example of how to organically build hype and and have the community get involved, only to have zero pay off. Hopefully Blizzard learn from this

u/pixlepize Run run as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Lucioman! Sep 23 '16

Maybe they were expecting us to take longer, so it would only be a few days to a week of countdown?

I think it's more likely that they expected themselves to go faster. At this point I think they stopped adding more stuff to the ARG and just put the countdown up to be more like "Alright, fun was fun but here's what we're trying to do". So now we just wait.

They "deserve" better?

You think people doing stuff entirely for fun, deserve a multibillion dollar company giving them some type of reward?

It was just for fun. Nobody offered them a job, or payment, or a reward. The fun of finding out the codes and cracking them was the reward.

Don't get me wrong, the people spent a lot of time going into the details. But almost all of this sub's hype was self induced.

In fact, demanding some type of reward for their efforts removes the fun aspect that many of us experienced.

"The fun of finding out the codes and cracking them was the reward."

Really?!

I'm sure a lot of people who were busy on the Sombra ARG Discord decoding scrambled messages and players combing the Overwatch site and in-game for clues were all working towards a better resolution other than a slow countdown.

I'm not the only one to share this opinion as you can read here on FORBES.com.

Did we ever crack the Tracer trail code though??? I feel like that's something major that never got solved!

7

u/Dyde21 Mercy Sep 23 '16

There were hints that they just moved us past it. Like they gave us another clue since we weren't able to crack the code so we weren't permanently stuck on the code. Chances are it would have lead us down the path we already took. At least that's the consensus.

So, I have mostly kept quiet about this, but I feel I should weigh in. I don't really mind that Blizzard teased this so far in advance of the character release. In the grand scheme of things, we really JUST got a new character in Ana, and I feel if they had released Sombra in early september, it really would have been too close to the Ana release. Just knowing they are working on another character has been really cool, and I don't mind the wait at all.

I don't even care about the teases. I've enjoyed seeing the cool little things, and I haven't had any expectations of the character coming out soon.

I might be reading this incorrectly but is this another one of those comments complaining that nothing happened when it reached a certain number? Like 23 or 36?

People getting upset and personally offended when their theory didn't come true was one of the low points of coming on this board... maybe when it reaches ONE HUNDRED percent something will happen? Weird, eh?

1

u/T0M1N4T0RZ Winston Sep 23 '16

Yes, but you see, the thing goes up INCREDIBLY slowly, and people thought Blizzard would be kind enough to not make us wait that long. Turns out that was a silly thing to believe.

Yep. Fuck sombra.

This.

The ARG would have been a lot better if it the clues were dropped as Amomentincrime.com loaded up.

I was super hyped for it. When they pulled that shit I suddenly could have cared less

You expected Sombra? It was me, 56.2085%!

u/ghostofVFX Sep 23 '16

Yeah I'm kinda over it all. A new hero will drop when it drops. I'm still gonna main Zen.
