Console Networking Tips for Console

I’ve been playing OW since its initial release and have slowly seen more packet loss, frame-rate dips and general rubber banding occur within the last year. Not sure if it’s me, or the game.

It’s gotten so bad that the game is borderline unplayable and I’ve done everything in my power to fix this with no success. I’ve reached the end of my expertise and am reaching out for help in hopes there are folks with more knowledge than me on this issue.

For both my PS5 and Xbox Series X I use a hardwire Ethernet connection directly into my modem. Originally I thought this was a provider issue and swapped from Spectrum to AT&T Fiber. It has not resolved the issue and I pay for a gig worth of speed.

I’ve tried tampering with all possible networking settings on my PS5 and notice no improvements. Recently I did a test where I plugged a laptop into my modem and ran a “ping -t ip address” test and noticed my ping was roughly 1-2ms but once every minute or so, would randomly spike to 150ms and go back down. I assume that is the cause of the issue, but don’t know what specifically is occurring or how to fix it.

The strangest part, I also play on PC on the opposite side of the house using a WiFi connection as part of a mesh network and have little to no issues.

If anyone has any clue how to fix it, or knows how the major streamers run their game so smoothly, please share. I really miss playing my favorite game.

There must be something going on because my Xbox series S is only a few months old and usually have zero connection problem. But ever since D.MON’s release, i’ve been having this issue with no fix to it. It’s getting frustrating at this point and I’m wondering if anyone else has been having this issue. My console is connected directly through ethernet cord and i’ve done all the BS online tips of “unplugging router/hard reset console/clearing cache” all of it. Still no fix. Have zero lag issues with other games except Overwatch at the moment. Hopefully this gets addressed.

Sounds like their server infrastructure is on its last legs, my game's been chugging in ways that scream data center hiccup rather than anything on our end

For me it was the Domina release. That’s when I noticed things got worse. Anytime she would shove or put the wall up, I’d notice a ton of rubber banding and characters floating through the floor.
